Hello - I have a question. I have been accepted to CSULB's MSW program and USC's MSW program. I know USC is ranked 10th and CSULB is ranked 60th, but USC will cost me $85,000 and CSULB will cost $15,000. I've looked at various websites and I see what Social Workers make and it's not a lot of money. Since I want to start my own non-profit org. when I'm done is it a bad choice for me to choose CSULB. I've heard they have a great program and I'd rather come out of school debt free than $85,000 in debt.

Can anyone tell me if there is a big difference in the programs?

Thanks

how are you going to remake 85,000 dollars with a non profit org?

csulb is a fine school; go there.

That's the problem I don't think I will, but will graduating from CSULB make me less appealing to possible donations for my organization?

Both schools will give you the education you need to be successful. USC might provide connections with people who will be wealthier after graduating from college (because so many are wealthier going in) so you might have more opportunities in that respect, BUT I have a hard time thinking any college would be worth graduating with a degree in social work with 85,000.00 of debt. Why not start at Long Beach and transfer to USC for your junior and senior year if you don't think Long Beach is working for you? There are many ways to make you and your organization valuable to potential donors and I am sure you will find a way to make that happen later. And EVERY school has a base of supporters that are accessible to the top students at the university so you will meet people there if you get involved on the right projects and organizations. Do not go 85,000 into debt.
