<p>I just got back from my CTOPS yesterday, feel free to ask me any questions. : )</p>
<p>How was it? What exactly did you guys do other than sign up for classes?
Mine is on June 17th</p>
<p>It was great! Most of the day was filled with seminars (what the campus/school offers, interesting but most of it you can learn from the website) and we were split up into groups to have discussions on the seminars and discuss possible classes we want to sign up for. Then there was some just fun stuff, the Orientation Leaders had some skits and dances they did (Ivy is the best OL!) and on Thursday night they had evening activities: volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, and a dance floor. </p>
<p>On day two we met with an academic advisor who helped us decided which classes we should consider taking. Then in our groups we signed up for our classes in a computer lab. I got all of the classes accept my language (wait-listed) and my fist choice seminar, however I did get a FYS even though it wasn’t my first choice. So in my case I got the classes I wanted but not the ideal times.</p>
<p>What do you have to take with you?</p>
<p>I really didn’t need anything more than what was on the “what to bring” list. I did wish I had brought a notebook to take notes in though.</p>
<p>were you with your parents the whole time through or do they go somewhere else for the whole day? :)</p>
<p>My parents didn’t come, I only live 30-40 minutes away and I’m the second kid off to college, they didn’t think it was necessary to come. However the majority of the time we were separate, check the new student website and it has the schedules online for each group.</p>
<p>Did you have to sit through a 4 hour lecture on “conduct”?</p>
<p>yep, as you sit with you groups and then have a discussion on it. I filled out my survey during it, lol, stupid thing kept me busy for about an hour. They did their best to keep it interesting, it wasn’t terrible. I’ve had hour long classes feel longer than that 4 hour one.</p>
<p>I don’t remember a 4-hour conduct thing (did CTOPS three years ago)- that is ridiculous. Do you still spend the night in the dorm? I did that and it was super depressing being in an empty dorm room. Looking back, I would definitely have just gone home! LOL.</p>
<p>Do you know if it is mandatory to sleep in the dorm during CTOPS?</p>
<p>I did sleep in the dorm (I don’t know if it is mandatory but it is included in your orientation price), it didn’t bother me. My roommate was nice and all I did was sleep in it so I didn’t spend much time in it anyways. Pretty similar to staying in a cheap hotel room. Unless you live within 15 minutes I think it would be too much of a hassle, you have a registration seminar at 8:00. </p>

<p>yeah, i filled out the survey during that session too. all they talked about was alcohol abuse and sexual harassment. there are definitely sessions on the first day that are skip-able. i left before the session right before dinner and went out to eat at qdoba. i didnt think staying in the dorms would have been bad if the people in the room beside me would have shutup before 3 in the morning, but i guess you cant get everything you want. some kids went to some random party, but i wouldnt advise that. kids have gotten their admissions taken away for getting drunk at CTOPS</p>
<p>No, you don’t have to stay overnight in the dorm - looking back, I definitely would have gone home for the night (I live 20 minutes away) because I also had to deal with people being loud, etc. I hope all the orientation leaders are super nice this year! My orientation leader was a major pain in the you-know-what, ha ha.</p>
<p>How much time did you spend with your advisor and do you think he/she was helpful?</p>
