My friend and I have been looking pretty heavily at the University of Colorado at Boulder... We both plan on being Computer Engineering majors, but our grades aren't good enough for CIT or MIT... I've read some of the reviews, and I've been recieving some mixed messages... Some say the academics suck, others say they rock, some say everyones snobby, others say theyre all really nice... I havent gone up there yet and I was hoping if I might be able to get some reviews on this school... Is it mainly party hearty or does it have a strong academic program? Thank you!

its a sweet school. ive got a couple of friends that go there. the academics are fairly good and it does have some strong programs, but it is a huge party school.

I have been guest faculty there. It's a McSchool. There's very little to distinguish it as a school, though I have nothing but good things to say about Boulder and the setting. I can't comment on the computer science area. I just know nothing about it.

Basically, it's a party school. Walk down the streets on the Hill in the wee hours (as I have) and you'll have to dodge the staggering students and the vomit on the sidewalks. If you don't party, you won't care about that.

Snobby? I wouldn't say so. It's full of rich kids who are also weak students. They come there to ski and squeak by to a degree. But there are also a few strong students who couldn't afford anything else.

Is it a strong academic school overall? No. Is it weak? No. I'd say it's pretty much right in the middle.

Thanks for the replies... What's a McSchool? As in they are the same school over and over again? And does anyone know about professor-student interaction? Thank you again!

McSchool is just my name for colleges that have few or no differentiating characteristics. It's like walking into a McDonald's anywhere in the country. They all look and feel the same.

Professor/student interaction. It's a huge school focused mostly on research and graduates. Like anywhere else, some faculty will be interested in undergrads and other faculty will see them as an annoyance. Culturally, the school is not focused on undergrads, but there are faculty who care a great deal about them. You just have to find them.
