Cuesta---->Cal Poly? Best route into Cal Poly SLO? Computer Eng/Sci

I am not qualified to enter as a freshman. Cal Poly Is where I need to be. I currently have no college units, so i have a blank canvas to work with. Any insight/advice/knowledge to help me come up with the best course of action is welcomed and appreciated.

Yes Cuesta is a good route. check the website as there will be transfer info there.

I am aware that Cuesta has good articulation with SLO (much better than my local CC Norco College). Thank you for the confirmation. They also have several other benefits that go along with being a feeder school to Cal Poly. Although Cal Poly still does NOT actually give Cuesta a little bit more priority over other CC’s for being local is this correct? @BrownParent @ucbalumnus Is there a better route? Allan Hancock? Or is Cuesta most likely the BEST route? (Simply meaning the highest chance of acceptance)

You probably want to choose the one with the best articulation if other factors are equal, so that you will be missing the fewest prerequisite courses.

@Highc1290 Cuesta is quite familiar with the transfer process since many students use this route to gain admittance to CP. Your best resource is right there at Cuesta , and I encourage you to talk to them as out your best strategy. Even some of the professors teach at both colleges since they are right down the road from each other.
Good luck!

I must however offer a sober note of caution. Transfer admission rates are even lower than first time freshman admission rates. Work hard at Cuesta to get the very best grades and experience that you can, but have a backup plan. Good luck!

Even at Cuesta, you’ll still need very solid grades to transfer into CS at SLO - think 3.5+. That’s a pretty tall order.

good luck

I’m aware of it being a shot in the dark, even with a lot of hard work. That’s why i’m trying to come up with the best route that will give me the best chance. I’m committed to doing what it takes on my end. And will of course have a back up plan if I end up not being able to get to CPSLO. TAG is something that gives me a little bit of comfort in regards to a backup plan haha. I will end up in a great program eventually Im certain of that. SLO is my Goal. Thank you everyone for the info and wishes of good luck. @NCalRent @eyemgh @swimdogmom @ucbalumnus

I have decided to go to Cuesta. Will be starting in the Spring of 2016 (hopefully I can find a place to stay in the area). Since departments actually choose which students to admit, I think it will benefit me greatly to be so close to CPSLO. Maybe i can make a few good contacts in the department. Along with articulation, counselors being more knowledgeable of what it will take to transfer etc. I think Cuesta will be my best shot.
