Culture

I'm from South Texas and currently attending school in central Missouri. I'm finding Missouri to be a little too conservative and "country."

I'm thinking of transferring to IU, but I'm wondering just how different it would be. Any midwesterners willing to share their thoughts about the differences between these two locations? Or at least anyone willing to give their opinion of the culture at IU?

I am not a Midwesterner but, I go to IU and I'm from Texas. I guess I could share what I think...

I personally believe it depends on who you choose to hang out with. Because the school has so many great areas of study (i.e. Music and Business), one can effortlessly find themselves amidst a wide array of people. For example, if you're into the more independent side it if can be found and if you're into the more frat type side it too can be found. Those are just a fraction of the cultures at IU.

I felt kind of out of place in Texas throughout high school (similar reasons to your dislike of Missouri) and it did not take long for me to find my place in IU. In short, I have enjoyed my time immensely at IU.

Hope that helps. Feel free to follow up if you have any more questions.

Most of my family is from Dallas (but I am from Chicago), and when I went to Dallas there was a huge culture difference between Texas and IU. Of course there is a difference between IU and Chicago as well. I think there is a good balance of almost everything at IU. Liberals, conservatives, gays, straights, blacks, whites, everyone is here.
