What are the benefits of going to a Cuny vs Suny and vice versa?

There are good school in each system, as for pros and con’s I’m not sure that’s what you need as those are individual to schools so I’m going to map out the differences. One thing I will say, and I don’t have proof, but I would imagine that being in the city allows for more internship opportunities esp in the business fields.

CUNY
In the 5 boroughs
Limited on campus housing
Many do not have a real campus as the “city is your campus”
A lot of commuter students

SUNY
Often in the middle of nowhere (new paltz is the only one I know of not really in the middle of nowhere)
Real campus
Most have guaranteed housing (oneonta makes freshmen and sophomore stay on campus)

New Paltz is a nice town! Stony Brook is sort of not in the middle of nowhere, too.

It’s really just two very different experiences because one would put you in New York City and others are all over (mostly rural) New York. It’s the difference between the hustle and bustle of an urban life and a traditional college campus. You’d have opportunities at either. There are good CUNYs and good SUNYs.
