Cure for Procrastination

Has anyone found a cure for procrastination, yet? Any advice?

Its not that I'd rather be on the computer. I just... I don't know why or how I do it. If I turn off everything, I'm still fully capable of procrastinating.

This very topic has been a project of mine for quite sometime.

I just can't seem to get around to starting it ...

guffaw I was meaning to contribute to this thread too. I will do it in a bit. Okay?

^lmao.
It's a horrible habit, procrastination. Everyone has their own way of dealing with it. I usually take a shower (or do something refreshing), turn off all electronics (except for a cd/mp3 player or laptop if I need to use it), go to the dining room table or a bookstore and work. If using a laptop, I turn off the wireless.. get off of CC and AIM.. and stop getting sidetracked... >.< The path to stop procrastinating is actually procrastination. :shrugs:

If you are afraid of success or perhaps depression.....there are many causes for procrastination....one being perfectionism.

a real cure is a huge failure that u experience due to procrastination. Then u'll realize how important it is to do the work early.

Ho hum... Like I said before, turning off the tv, computer, etc. doesn't help.

Well, I'm not depressed anymore, so I don't think its depression. I don't know if I'm afraid of success. Perfectionism might have something to do with it. Sometimes I don't feel like working because the place just isn't clean enough. So I clean the place and get everything perfect. Then I find something like a book I was planning to read and read some of it then go to bed. The next day, I find some other excuse not to do my homework.

There has been a time when I finished all my school work before hand. It was great to be free! But it felt terribly strange. Since I'm not allowed to be a normal American teen and go out, I was stuck in the house doing nothing. I felt like I didn't have any purpose or something. The only thing to do when I finish my homework is to do what I normally do when I procrastinate. I'm not any happier when I don't procrastinate than when I do.

BTW, this year I am doing many after school activities so I'll have limited time at home. I'm hoping maybe this will help me not to procrastinate, but I do have work i want to do this summer and yep. I'm procrastinating on that. >_<

One cure for procrastination is to break up tasks into smaller chunks, it is easy to get overwhelmed, so pick on thing to do or part of it, for instance, if its organize your room, just do the floor, or just to the closet

Procrastination can be caused by not wanting to fail or not being able to finish

Set up a schhedule and reward yourself for finishing something

It is good to break up the tasks into smaller section

As well, you need to be organized

In order to stop procrastinating, you must begin to not procrastinate. Works for me... for a while anyway.

For me, even though I procrastinate a lot, I usually have a schedule that I keep up with. Like for instance, I will say that 9 pm I can go use the computer, BUT if I don't finish other things before that, I can't go. So after procrastinating till like 8 or so, I rush like mad through all the things that I have to do, then at around 9:30 or before I finish. :D It helps... obviously it won't help if you can't control your self not to use the computer/entertainment before that. (Which has occurred a few times before... :/)

i used to be a huge procrastinator and whenever i would be doing my homework i would start day dreaming and then i would get on AIM or just surf the web and waste time. Then i found CC and i was horrified to see how hard it was to get into college and i started working harder. I realized how much procrastinating had become a big part of my life, it's like a bad habit thats hard to kick. lol..im still workin on it but im gettin better..:)

a strong motivation to not procrastinate?

A strong motivation is a good idea. Except, there's nothing to motivate me. You know the only reason I'm even studying for the PSAT? Its only for the money.

CC scared the crraaapp out of me! Then I found University of Tulsa and their obsession over IB students and that made me relax a whole lot. >_<

I will definately try the cutting up thing. That might help.

if you have no motivation why do u want to do it? lol sorry I think I know what u mean.

and that IS the only reason to study for the PSAT

Motivation? Yeah, it could be a good way to stop procrastinating, but for people like me who don't actually CARE about anything it's not going to work. The only thing that's keeping me going is for my brother to shut up about "how stupid I am", and the feeling that "you're smarter than other people". :P Stupid I know, but whatever.

i have the same problem/disease as you. i do most of my homework at school like at lunch, library or in class (i know....i don't always pay attention to the teacher) and people are always thinking i'm smart or studious because of this. All i do is watch tv, sleep and procastinate at home!:)

people study for psats!!!!!? i thought it doesn't count. You get money?! (i know you get letters from colleges but MONEY?)

The solution is elementary - chuck your computer out the window right NOW. =)

there is no cure - deal with it bwahahaha

The Miracle Cure for Procrastination

nyuk nyuk nyuk.

After many years of trying to cure my procrastination, I have finally realized that there is no way to rid myself of it. I've been doing it for too long, and it somehow works for me. I usually do not study for tests...even the big ones. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bragging about it... It's a sickness. I really don't know how to study. I end up sitting on my bed, staring blankly at a pile of notes. One of the things that helps me is the fact that I have very knowledgeable and interesting teachers. I find that in most of my classes, I don't have to study because my teachers explain everything so well during class. As for reading books assigned for english class..It never fails. I always plan to read, but I usually finish them the night before (or in extreme cases, the period before).

If you think about the amount of stress you put yourself under the last time you started an 8-page paper 7 hours before it was due, it may deter you from procrastinating again. Maybe.
