I already know I can't get in directly but while looking at the academy's website I saw that it said anyone who was appointed directly is automatically considered for naps. So what does this mean.

To put it bluntly, it means if you aren’t good enough to go directly to USNA but think you are a pretty good candidate, they might send you to NAPS to sharpen your skills and then let you go to USNA if all goes well.

It’s mainly used for recruited athletes and minorities.

Does an applicant with a 4.3 and a 217 PSAT have a shot at NASS?

Completely irrelevant question, but…

Yeah, I’d say, but NASS is mostly a recruiting tool, geography has a lot to do with it…a NASS applicant from a highly competitive area is less likely to get in than a applicant from Podunk USA.

OK but if you look at my other post i don’t have the best class rank (383-744 top 49% of class) and my GPA which is a 3.0. i’m involved in JROTC drill team, and other teams such as ORienteering and Raiders so i dont have that much time for sports so should i apply to the USNA and see if they’ll give me a shotat NAPS

Well you have 0 chance if you don’t apply, if you want to go its pointless NOT to apply.

Just be sure to have a plan B too.

CE527M Agteed, unfortunately NAPS is mainly used for recruited athletes and minorities. That being, many are inducted into USNA which could not otherwise “Win” an appointment through the fair, normal application process. It allows undeserving unqualified candidates to attend. As result, many highly qualified
candidates are either not accepted and others must endure the results of the Academy allowing unqualified, non leaders who have real powers of punishment in the hands of incompetent people.

lol lol lol I thought this kid was asking about the pros and cons of napping. like. sleeping. :)

Ignorance is bliss. Serve some cornbeef hash with those 'taters, and I’ll join you!

@ KIDDO … given your profile, barring some exceptional circumstance(s), your chances are slim. But you know that if you’ve simply looked at the most recent Plebe profile on the USNA admission website.

Applause for your great heart and there is undoubtedly a place for you in the military service of yours and my nation. While it’d not likely be at USNA, in light of theirs and your needs and profiles, there are other outlets. NAPS isn’t one in the purview of your control, even if you apply. That’s a tree unavailable to “bark up”, imo.

i think your right well what i was thinking about today was if i do apply and i dont make a direct appointment or NAPS i was thinking to communty college for a year or 2 and then re-apply…but thats my plan b, but yes i’ll apply and we’ll see what happens. i havent taken the SAT or ACT yet so those my save me a little
