Curious as to why Penn's international reputation isn't as strong....

^^
I love how you two follow each other around these threads. Reminds me of the Peter Griffin / giant chicken fight.

How many US presidents , Nobel Prize winners , THE Richestest Man in the world in any year,
Founders of Famous Start-ups like Google Microsoft , graduated from Penn ?

Zero…

Is this how you define success?

jomjom that’s wrong. Many novel prize winners have graduated from Penn.

Also, considering you will never do any of those things, are you calling yourself a failure?

^^^More importantly, as a proportion, how many Penn grads can be considered successful (and even extremely successful) by today’s standards? And in any case, it’s the people who start up those companies, not their schools, that were the reason for their success. If you have it in you, a decision such as where you go for college doesn’t really matter at all in the long run. For every normal person, Penn offers excellent opportunities and has a record of wealthy and successful alumni. In fact, your questioning the value of an Ivy League education is ignorance personified and you’re clearly a ■■■■■ a la EATYOURCEREAL.

What I really don’t understand is how one can say that one school is better than another? AFAIK most colleges use the same/similar textbooks. It is just the amount of effort the students put into their work.

Penn has a decent rep overseas. Definitely on par with Michigan, UVA, UNC. In NYC, I would venture to guess it is not that known on the Indian community. They know about MIT, HYP and Colum–every Indian in NY knows Pandit from Citi is a big Columbia guy. .

William Henry Harrison (PRESIDENT) went to Penn.
George Washington (PRESIDENT) earned an honorary degree from Penn and actually attended lectures… some scholars say he actually went there (i.e. regularly went to classes and earned degrees)
The SECOND richest person in the world (Warren Buffett) graduated from Penn.
Donald Trump graduated from Penn…
Martin Luther King, Jr. took classes at Penn
Nicholas Biddle (president of central bank/recall: andrew jackson v. biddle) went to Penn
Nine signers of the Declaration of Independence
Eleven signers of the Constitution
Two Supreme Court Justices
Countless senators, congressmen, national/int’l prize winners

…and the list goes on and on…

“on par with Michigan, UVA, UNC”??? WAY above.

This thred is about international reputation… not about success.

WRONG

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett

Only person known to the general public is Donald Trump…and he is somewhat…
shallow… like entertainer … not entrepreneur … not charismatic enough to contribute to international reputation
Give me a list who actually received degree from Penn ( taking few classes does not count)

jomjom, here are a few lists for you:

[List of University of Pennsylvania people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](List of University of Pennsylvania people - Wikipedia)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wharton_School_alumni

[List of Nobel laureates affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](List of Nobel laureates by university affiliation - Wikipedia)

In order to achieve a solid internationa reputation, UPenn needs at least 50 Nobel laureates…

[List of Nobel laureates by university affiliation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](List of Nobel laureates by university affiliation - Wikipedia)

^ Guess that also rules out Yale, Princeton, and Cornell.

OMG, it’s predominantly a pre-professional university…people who don’t realize that shouldn’t be commenting on Penn.

hahaha international reputation simply depends on the number of Nobel laureates?

How many Nobel laureates can you name jomjom? How about which school they went to?

Also, I’m pretty sure Wharton students don’t give a damn about getting a Nobel Prize

For solid international reputation, UPenn needs one of the following…

1)more than 2 ‘Famous’ US presidents ,
2)more than 50 Nobel Prize winners ,
3)THE Richestest Man in the world in any year,
4) Founders of Famous Start-ups like Google Microsoft

only graduate, who received degrees should be counted…

You’re just hopelessly delusional if you don’t realize that ALL of those successful individuals are the result of individual merit/capability and not the specific university they attended. It has no relevance to the average person considering the top schools in the United States.

well we are not talking about success/failure…

We are talking about ‘’‘’‘reputation’‘’‘’… here…
