[Curious] :] What colleges r u planning to apply to?

CLARIDGE~

Yea um my dad decided to "ban Vassar" from my options for a few reasons....

"I don't want to have to drive you EVERY year out to New York with all your crap."

"Dad, I can drive myself or rent a car or SOMETHING, you don't HAVE to drive me every year."

"I don't want to pay that much."

"Mom is helping with the money, and Oberlin is just as much!"

"I'm putting my foot down. End of discussion."

I HATE IT WHEN HE DOES THAT!!!!!!

Maybe its cause he doesn't want me to move to the East Coast because, being Uber Christian Man, he doesn't want his little girl "CORRUPTED!" Haha...maybe he doesn't want me to get a better education than he did? Although I'd get one from Oberlin anyways...maybe he just is simply lazy and doesn't wanna drive me. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. My sights were set on it for SO LONG. :( :(

My parents want to ban everything but Caltech and UWashington due to the fact that I can't get any need-based aid and am not rich enough to pay for anything else. I'll have to gamble for merit-based scholarships at UChicago and from external sources, and I'm not that exceptional...

Yeah, my guidance counselor said he would give me his salary for the next 4 years if I didn't get into Cornell. Cornell accepts about 40 kids from my school a year, and while my school doesn't rank, I'm easily top 5% of my class. Plus, my parents work there.

thewildflower, I'd apply anyway and see if you're accepted. If you're denied, all is well (sort of) and you won't have that lingering "what if ..." but if you're accepted, it may be easier to convince the parent ....

ieatglue: Dude, you should collaborate with Cornell to scam your GC out of his salary for four years. I'm sure you could go somewhere with a comparable reputation as Cornell, and then you could use your GC's salary to pay for tuition.

=D

(yes...i'm kidding. =)

Hm.... well currently I'm wanting to bang my college counselor over the head ( she made some really stupid recommendations for me.... and I'm just sitting there like .... ummmm.... no. not that they're bad schools, one is actually extremely strong in my program but I want to go to the school in the city. basically a rural school is not for me (and there are about 4 on a list of 10 recommendations).

I think I'll definitely be applying to:
UMICH
Northwestern
USC
American
Boston U.

Maybe:
GWU
Syracuse
UW-Madison (can anyone elaborate on this choice for me?)
Drexel
... others

Yeah, I should have gotten it in writing.

I love living in Canada. Basically, if you have a 90+% average, you can get into nearly any arts program, anywhere. I'm not worried much about getting in anywhere, it's more about the atmosphere and chance of getting scholarships.

I'm applying to (in no particular order of preference):
University of Ottawa (excellent chance at a scholarship... there is one that is for 5 people in my province, and the admissions lady said that usually only 2-3 people APPLY... not to mention taking poli sci in the nation's capital has its benefits)
University of Victoria (for the West Coast... I'm not to into UBC, although I don't really know why)
McGill (Montreal is amazing, I love the culture and the international feel it has. I've also heard new rez is amazing... best in the country even)
Dalhousie (both parents went there, and Halifax is a really university oriented city)
Queen's (definetly a good reputation, although the scholarship chances are slim... I've heard good reviews all around for Queen's)

Others I'm considering applying to:
Bishop's (I'm going nuts over the mandatory MUN practicum in poli sci - how cool would that be?)
UBC (I just don't know about it... some intuition thing)
St.FX (A lot of my good friends are applying there)

It's all good.

Harvard
MIT
JHU
UPenn
Columbia
Brown
Brandeis
BU

Duke
Stanford
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
WUSTL
JHU
Brown
Cornell
Columbia
BU

claridge seems to be my competition... with cornell columbia and jhu... grr!!! jk

oo Whoa! ^^ Well I hope you guys get into one of your colleges. :P Maybe I might see you guys never know ha ha! :]

EA Harvard

All the Ivys
Safeties - Cornell, Rice, U of Chicago, WUSTL ,- I'm not going there though

Why apply to a school you have no intention of going to?

I get applying to like 7-10 if you have no idea where you want to be or are striving for Harvard but don't want to stay home next fall if you don't get in, but why waste the money to apply if you don't want to go to school there.

wow, would you be an ass and apply to any of the schools ur not going to, ur just another spot that other kids want... and cornell shouldn't be a safety for anyone...

My list:

1) MIT (free tuition :D)
2) Olin school of engineering (free tuition :D)
3) State school (free tuition...meh)
4) Naval academy. Me != athletic though. I wouldn't survive.

free tuition at mit??? HOW!!!

*not only is this only tentative, I'm 90% sure it'll change
(numbers indicate 1st choice, 2nd etc)
safeties:
ohio state (5)
toledo (6)

matches:
kenyon (1)

reaches:
university of aberdeen (scottland) (3)
university of st. andrews (scottland) (2)
oberlin (1)
case western (2)
princeton (2)
brown (1)
swarthmore (4)
tufts (3)

I'm applying to ten (when I cut it down, add some more, and cut it down once more) for financial reasons, not because I'm a presitge whore :p

ur in love with the schools in schotland huh? and brown*

Aberdeen might come off, and probably will. I adore St. andrews and they have the highest % of Americans, so I wouldn't be the only one (what am I saying? I'm always a minority lol) Yale might be added on. who knows!
