Anyone know any good places to find extra long twin sheets/mattress pads? We tried Kmart today and everything was about 5 inches off On the other hand, I am told that twins will fit an extra long twin anyway, can anyone vouch for that? Thanks in advance.

They mentioned something about bedding at the Parent’s Orientation session. I let my wife handle it! I believe you can buy directly from BC as well.

A twin fitted sheet will not fit XL. There is no need for a XL blanket or comforter, however.

Bed, Bath & Beyond has a huge stock of college stuff, incl. sheets. I’ve also found XL at Walmart.

My personal preference is an oscillating fan over a window box; or do both.

Target to add to that list. Keep in mind there’s a Target in Watertown (not too far from BC) where you can pick up sheets (for those of you who have a vehicle). Otherwise, you can take the green line down to fenway and get your sheets from the Bed Bath and Beyond that’s over there.

Bring a fan! The dorms are so hot, I had to keep my window open all year, even in the winter. It is good to have one that can clip on to your bed or bookshelf. I think it is good for both roommates to have their own.
I got a lot of my stuff at Target. I got my bedding at TJ Maxx surprisingly. A twin mattress pad is fine for the dorm beds, but you definitely need XL sheets.

Boston IS collegetown USA. Target and BedBath will have bare shelves when you land so buy ahead. If you’re not packing the SUV, then UPS your room essentials to BC, or have whatever you buy on-line shipped directly to your dorm. I found Tommy Hilfiger XLtwin sheet sets at Macy’s to be both affordable and durable with nice prints that would please daughters or sons. My son, BC ‘09, needed the comforter only 1 wk out of 4 winters. If you go up Parents’ Weekend, bring it then. Before that, it just takes up valuable space in the closet.

I caution about shipping directly to BC mail box. In the week leading up to move in day, the UPS/Fedex trucks are lined up all day long delivering stuff, including books. As a result, the mail room takes several days to organize, process and put a note in your box that you ‘have a package’; you might be sleeping on a bare mattress awaiting your boxes to be handed to you. Either ship a week+ early, or ship to whatever hotel you (parents) might be staying.

How close are shopping malls from BC?

whats the need based financial aid like at bc?

There’s a shopping mall about 10 minutes away from BC in Watertown. There’s also a strip mall in Dedham which is about a 20-30 minute drive. Otherwise you can always go into the city and go to the malls there (Hynes and the one at Lechmere come to mind).

When do we find out who our roommate is

You can order from Bed Bath and Beyond and then have it shipped and pick it up at the store closest to BC.

karachi:

BC’s finaid is good, but not great. In other words, it is much less generous than those Ancient, well-endowed colleges in the NE, but better than many colleges ranked similarly and lower in that BC meets full need (as defined by them).

I believe that all rooms in campus housing have cable access. Is it HD?

I’m almost certain that the cable at BC is not in HD unless that has changed within the past year.

Thanks. That’s kind of what I thought when I didn’t see “HD” anywhere on the website. Daughter wants a television so she can watch the Red Sox…

do you have to take the introductory course in a certain department before taking other courses in that same department. for example, i was looking to take society and social deviance in the fall, would i have to take introductory sociology beforehand?

also, is it recommended to take a cultural diversity course later on?

You don’t need to take an introductory course as long as it is not a prerequisite for the other class you want to take. In your case intro to sociology isn’t a prereq for any of those other classes so it isn’t a problem. Keep in mind though that freshman are the last to register and if that class is already not full (which you can check under Course Information & Schedule on the portal) then it will probably be full very soon because I know from experience that sociology classes are really popular.

oh ok…thanks, and is there anywhere that states how long classes are? rather, what’s the average time for a class?
