Soooo any thoughts? Berkeley is by far my number one choice. Thanks.

p.s. I know legacy isn't a factor, but both my parents and my uncle went to Cal, and my grandfather wrote his disseratation there.....do you think admissions considers legacy status at all, even if it doesnt do it officially?

I do not think that Berkeley considers legacy a factor in its admission process simply because it is a public school. Private schools will consider a legacy but out of all fairness, a public school will look at a applicant like they will at any other applicant. It all depends on your relative strengths compared to the applicant pool.

yeah i figured legacy wouldnt make a difference....but based on my stats do you think i have a shot?

VERY IMPORTANT: what is your gpa/?????

my weighted gpa (the one the ucs use if im not mistaken) is around a 4.2, and my unweighted is around a 3.95.

I'm not sure if Berkeley accepts by major duirng their freshman admission process. If they do, your choice of major plays a significant role in the selection process. Since your UC GPA is a 4.2, I presume that you have a fair chance in getting into CAL. However, I have seen cases in which 4.0's or above don't get into CAL, so I assume that is all luck and how much of an impression you make in front of the application reviewer.

Who knows, maybe they consider. I do think they ask for it, anyway. As to recs, they don't matter for the UC's, unless very atypical situations come up. Just don't worry about them, and don't count on them helping you.

If your schools sends people with your stats and class rank and essay writing skills to schools of this caliber, then your chances are good. If not, they are not good. Good luck.

If Berkeley is your number one choice, why are you considering Columbia ED?

earlier i was considering columbia ed but i've decided that berkeley is really a better fit for me.

That's cool. I think your stats make you capable of getting in, but again I say this: If your schools sends people with your stats and class rank and essay writing skills to schools of this caliber, then your chances are good. If not, they are not good. Good luck.
