Carnegie was the fist university to have a campus wide wireless network. They're running on t3, which is a 50 meg connection. They're also connected to internet2, which is very characteristic of CMU, back in the day, they were connected to ARPAnet. One of the origional hubs, in fact.

T3... I'd disagree with that - 45Mbps would make CMU's network crawl. CMU is pushes/pulls around 110Mbps over commodity internet at any given time (according to their network stats), with bursts of up to 170Mbps - That means that they're using way more than an OC3 (155Mbps). They also use up to 455Mbps over Internet2. CMU has a connection to the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (which they run) that provides bandwidth to CMU, UPitt, and a few other institutions. That network can use up to 1244Mbps of commodity internet, and 2.4Gbps of Internet2.

People have gotten busted for using internet2, and I don't think it's actually functional anymore. But yes, the wired internet connection is very fast. The wireless does cover the entire campus, but there are some places where the signal is pretty weak.

Busted for using i2Hub, not Internet2. Internet2 is a primarily research based network for connecting universities. i2Hub was a file sharing program that only worked on Internet2 universities. i2Hub doesn't exist anymore, however the last beta version they released still works if you can find a copy.
