lots of saturated cable (~5mbps max) all over campus. med school ethernet runs on fiber channel (10mbps+). however, wherever lots of students are in the wi-fi range of a gateway, speeds vary a LOT. geisel during finals week and you’ll have trouble opening up simple html pages.

as long as ur not in tioga… (no wifi) :(

Tioga is getting WiFi this incoming year. News heard from students there themselves :).

^ Sweet. That’s where I’m hoping to dorm. (:

many people in pepper canyon can also get wifi from the access point in the lodge.

I live in ERC and ethernet gets me anywhere from 600 kb/sec on a normal day to 5 mb/sec on a great day.

Is the net in the apartments good for gaming?

No wifi in the ERC dorms?

^No there definitely is wireless in ERC dorms. Sometimes it gets a little shady though, so I have a cable just in case.

too fast. 322 Mb/s dl. <a href=“Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test”>Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test; for proof. heh

Where did you get that on campus?! I only got like 25 mb/s dl at clic’s

Still, it’s fast enough for me!

Edit: Huh, I tried it again and got 38 mb/s.

All pepper canyon apartments have wifi in each building, no need to use the lodge. so connection speeds are decent.

why do u guys need a super fast connection? there’s really no point unless you were planning on streaming HD movies or something. For the most part, the internet connection is way too fast to notice any sort of lag.

does anyone know the alternative for torrenting at college?

Rapidshare, usenet

everything is pretty much fair game aside from torrents and limewire/kazaa, if anyone even uses that anymore.

rapidshare.com, mediafire.com, megaupload.com, sendspace.com, etc.

I’m confused about how exactly do they know that your using torrents. I’m guessing it would be because of high upload rates. But what if you cap it at maybe 15-20 and use private trackers. Could you get away with it?
