How do you stay up to date on current events? I'm trying to be more aware of what's going on in the world and I would like to get more into politics as well. I try to read the newspaper everyday, and does anyone visit any other forums, or have any book suggestions, podcasts, anything? Thanks for the help.

Go to a political forum, and once you're involved in a few lengthy flamewars you'll have a pretty good idea of the issues facing our nation.

Or just watch the news.

Yeah, I try to read the newspaper/watch the news... however, whenever I have very little time due to excessive amounts of HW, I just quickly read over the top stories on Yahoo. But I hate the whole "Americans know nothing about other countries/current events/etc." stereotype, so I try to combat it in my own little way =)

If you want news in a readily digestible format, definitely check out NPR's podcasts - they have five minute ones in addition to lengthier, more in-depth pieces, and do a pretty good job of representing all world interests. Magazines are fun too...The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, The Economist, etc. A good thing to do is to try to diversify your news sources - check out foreign news for a different perspective, that sort of thing. I compete in current events academically for UIL (it's a texas thing, haha), so I like to think I'm well-informed...hopefully this helps :)

Oh and definitly argue with people with different viewpoints. It can get tiring but all the better if you can justify your own opinions.

Set your homepage to a site like CNN, MSN, Yahoo or Google Personalized (and then set your settings to include headlines) and tadaaa you get to read the headlines every day.

huffingtonpost.com

fizix- do you know of any particular political forum because I would definitely be interested in finding out about one I just find it hard to search for.
