Current SC Students: is it a big deal to not take Writ 140 until spring freshman year

I am not currently in a Gen VI. I could try and switch out of Luther GenEd classes to get into a writing 140 classes. Is it a big deal taking my first semester classes without this "college essay writing experience"??
Also, in fall semester (if I don't switch to Gen VI) will my GE I and GE II classes be predominantly sophomores?

My most random question only for business majors: i am taking econ and business statistics. I plan on minoring in a foreign language, does it make more sense to take the language class or statistics (with Econ)? I hope this makes sense I am just kindof typing...

If i have any other questions Ill post em lol, thank a ton in advance!!!!

Not a big deal-- many freshman take writing second semester. Finding a class that fits and interests you (at least somewhat) is your best bet.

GEs can be full of all levels of students, although they are usually more underclassmen than upperclassmen, depending on the class and professor.

S didn’t take 140 till sophomore year. The problem with taking all these GEs first is you don’t get into your major courses to find out if you really like it, particularly in business. Then you end up behind if you want to change majors or it is hard to finish on time because of the chain of requirements/prerequisites. For business for example, get into the math required, then econ or finance or whatever early so you know if you actually like it. Doesn’t matter when you take 140, just get it and the other writing in by the time you graduate. Watch the flow of courses with prerequisites. Econ is one of those that is the beginning of a long chain of requirements in some majors. Good to watch for those kind of classes in any major.

For CS majors, the curriculum designs it so that you take GE V 1st semester, and then GE VI/Writ 140 second semester. Basically, you won’t be alone if you take it 2nd semester.

Doesn’t matter when you take it.
