Current Student Answering Questions :)

Hi everyone, I’m currently a Freshmen and just finished my first semester at Fordham College at Lincoln Center! I had a lot of questions last year when I was applying for college so I thought I might answer a few questions for any of you out there that have them! Anything from the core, classes, campus/dorm life, the social scene, I’d be more than happy to help! I don’t know much about life at Rose Hill, but I’m sure there’s plenty of more people on here that can help with that! :slight_smile:

A little bit about me:

I’m a freshmen girl pursuing a film/tv major and possible creative writing and German minor. I’m from the midwest, so for any of you wondering what the transition to city life is like, I’d be happy to help! I live on campus in McKeon hall.

heyyy girly!! i hella appreciate u taking the time to do this!! i applied to rose hill regular decision but i said i would accept any campus! i am extremely nervous bc of my low stats!! do u think i have a chance? gpa: 3.3 and sat: 1050 SUPER LOW!! but i have a ton of volunteering hour (300+), 3 sports, and a lot of other things. i think my personal statement is well written. be honest about my chances!! thank u

Hi
I am applying as a transfer planning to major in International Studies/Political Sci/ or Comparative Literature.
Still looking at their programs…
Also minoring in French Studies. Which campus will be better?

@ugHHhhstressed Hi! I don’t work in admissions so I don’t know exactly how much they take everything in account., but I do know that extracurriculars and essays are important! test scores aren’t the only thing that matters! That being said, your stats are on the low side for Fordham, so make sure you apply to some other schools you would be happy attending if things don’t work out! Good luck! :slight_smile:

@crystalleexx Hi! As far as I’m aware both campuses offer those programs, so it really would come down to which location and vibe you prefer. Lincoln Center is very urban, liberal, and a good chunk of the student body is involved with some sort of artistic/creative activity (theatre, art, dance, film, fashion) although not everyone! It’s a very small campus, but it never feels very cramped to me because it literally is in the center of new york city and there is always something to do.

I don’t know enough about Rose Hill to make a good judgement on it (I’ve only gone up there twice for football games) but from what I’ve seen it’s a beautiful campus. The surrounding area can be a bit dicey, so just use good judgment when going out. I’ve taken the subway up there and back each time and it’s been about 30 minutes, so still very accessible to the city!

As for which campus will be better for those programs, it’s up to you where you can see yourself fitting in best. You can take classes at both campuses for anything that is not the core, so I wouldn’t make a decision based solely on which classes are offered at a certain campus because that can change and you can still take the class no matter where your home campus is. I’d suggest visiting both and figuring out which environment you prefer!

@crystalleexx - Though both campuses offer the programs you are interested in, as @ParksAndWrecked mentioned, it will come down to the vibe of the campus you like. Rose Hill is very much a typical college campus. Lots of space and gothic style buildings. And if you have a class at the other campus you can take the RamVan for free. If you use the RamVan just to take you into Manhattan for other than a class, then you need to pay. Metro North Rail Road is literally right outside the gate and it’s a 15-20 minute trip to Grand Central Station (East 42nd Street between Park and Vanderbilt Avenues).

The surrounding area is very busy with shopping and restaurants. Up Fordham Road is a ton of shopping and Arthur Avenue is Little Italy. But you also must keep your wits about you and don’t flash the iPhone and don’t walk around drunk at 2AM. Common sense no matter where you are. I grew up not too far from campus, so I know the area well.

Make sure you visit both campuses. My daughter only did a summer session at Lincoln Center, she liked it, but preferred Rose Hill.

What were your stats!! if you don’t mind sharing

@ugHHhhstressed I had a 3.9 unweighted gpa, 4.1 weighted and 31 ACT
