I know some college dorms keep the heat up pretty high in winter, making heavy comforters unnecessary. But some are cool and a nice thick cozy duvet/comforter is great.... Is every dorm building different at Mount Holyoke, or can you say, in general, that dorms are kept either cool or warm? What is your advice: bring a thick warm duvet/comforter, or just something light?

In my experience, the dorm rooms air on the side of too warm as opposed to too cold in the winter – heaters are adjustable so you can turn your heat off if it gets too hot. That being said, it does vary from dorm to dorm and I’m not sure what conditions are like in dorms I haven’t lived in, although I haven’t heard much about people being too cold. I would recommend a down comforter that will warm up when you need it to and stay cooler on warmer nights.
