Current students: How warm are the dorms?

Because I want to get a duvet of appropriate coziness,

How cold or warm are the dorms kept most of the year?

I never found it cold in the dorms. I lived in Keeny which is the largest dorm for (mainly) freshmen. I bought a duvet and never used it (I never made my bed ha!).

What I got for my bed was a soft layer to put under the bed sheet, and a nice comforter that I used for the winter/spring.

BTW the first few weeks on campus is HOT. Buy a fan! It gets warm during the first weeks and the end of spring.

I really appreciate that you are from L.A. too. Unlike advice from native Alaskans or New Yorkers, yours is easy to trust!

Thank you!

In my dorm, too, it was always warm. Although I’m from Massachusetts, my roommate was from Florida, and we turned the heat on maybe 3 times all year.

The coldest dorm is the Grad Center, and that’s not a freshman dorm. Many of the rooms in there are absolutely freezing.

My dorm freshman year was pretty warm, but there were a few rooms that had heating problems during the dead of winter. I was generally fine with sleeping in a t-shirt for the whole year.

It REALLY varies. My room was always plenty warm (often had to crack the window open, even in winter), but some people complained that their rooms were freezing.
