For civil engineering, does it make a difference whether you use a PC or MAC?

Heard something that some sort of software application called "myApps" may be required for MAC users to access files. Unclear on the details, so this is a poor description.

no difference. the cad programs/matlab/programming ides are all available for both windows+osx, and myapps is run through the program cord, which is also cross-platform. just pick whatever computer you like best. worst case scenario just bootcamp your mac.

the only drawback is that windows has a MUCH larger variety of games (but I bootcamp so it’s not too bad aside from having to reboot every time)

Cool. Thanks yoona

The above explained it pretty well, but in case anyone is confused about MyApps:

MyApps is a way for students to access software loaded on school computers without actually being at school. Macs have to load something on before they start MyApps, since I don’t think the remote desktop stuff is automatic for them. But no one buys and installs (which might require you to have a specific type of computer) things like STATA or MATLAB or whatever engineering uses…They just go to the computers on campus, or they load MyApps and remote into them.

It’s a little different for the graphic arts people, who tend to download some programs that are much better for Macs- but that doesn’t apply in this case.
