I just got back from CTOPS (group 11 -_-) and here's my schedule as it currently stands...

History of Western Art--VERKERK

+I was waitlisted in Spanish (level 3)

Also, I was thinking about adding math 118-selected topics...have you heard anything good/bad about it?

www.pick-a-prof.com
the best 5 bucks you will ever spend.. i signed up two days ago and found out sooo much about all the classes

Hey,

I agree with the above poster, Pickaprof.com offers extensive comments by students concerning almost every professor at UNC, it really really helps. All the student comments are detailed concerning what the professors tests are like, their curriculum, their attitude towards students, etc.

I think what you have now is pretty good for your first semester. What are you planning on majoring in?

I took World Regional Geography my first semester (I had Florin - I think he just retired from teaching though) and based on my experience, it was a pretty easy class as long as you do the reading and go to lectures...but I don't know how Birdsall teaches so it may be different.

I took Art History from Verkerk (as a fall semester freshman no less). I really enjoyed it. Her lectures are very interesting if you have any inclination towards art history (on the other hand, if you find art history horrendously boring, then you will surely fall asleep in class - since the lights are turned all the way down as she goes through the slides). If things are the same as they were 3 years ago...
1. 2 tests, 1 final. None were cumulative. Mostly defining art terms, recognizing slides went over in class, and using your knowledge to talk about some slides that weren't gone over in class (the "unknowns").

Recitation involves the TA going over the slides talked about in class or practicing identifying unknowns or going over some concepts. There were no assignments you had to do for recitation, just participate.

One final project which can be on any art history topic (I had chosen Roman Mummy Portraiture). Research it. Write a paper. Include pictures of some sample pieces, which your paper has to reference.

Do u have to draw or paint in art history?
