Current students: Scholarship Activities / Benefits ?

Hi All, I am interested to hear from current Chapman students, what their experiences from being a part of the Scholarship programs. Obviously, the scholarships provide tremendous financial assistance. But i am wondering what other benefits that you have experienced, as a recipient. Are there meetings and/or retreats? Have you encountered unique opportunities to meet with community, government, and business leaders? I know that Chapman is huge on working with, and assisting the students, to meet with business leaders, and to participate in Internships. Does the Scholarship program, in any way, go beyond the normal meet and greet activities. (I am specifically interested in the Presidential Scholars, but am also interested in all scholarship recipients). Our son received the Presidential Scholarship from USC, and the ATPS (Association of Trustee and Presidential Scholars) had unique opportunities. Thanks.

@lovetocamp,
I’m a parent of a current Chapman student. I’ll try my best to answer some of these questions as you also post on another thread.

(1) In general, i am wondering if there are any unique activities or opportunites for Merit Scholarship recipients.?

Chapman offers many types of scholarships and grants. I believe that their Merit Scholarship comes from their Endowed and Annual Scholarships. The funds to provide these awards have been donated by generous individuals or companies to benefit Chapman students. And also an opportunity to meet the donor and write a letter of appreciation may be an expectation. Here is their web page.

In addition, Chapman University has seven schools and each school has their own network of scholarship program. For example, here is a web page for one of the schools.

(2) Can you discuss (to whatever length you care to), the social activities that take place at Chapman. We did take the tour, so we have heard the official discussion of Clubs and Serorities, Fraternities, etc. But if you can discuss from a more unofficial perspective. What is a typical weekend like (on campus, for those who are not commuters). Also, any activities during the week. Does much happen “on campus” and/or “in Old Towne” which is a couple of blocks away. I did find some interesting and funny videos related to Chapman’s “Undie Run” when you do a youtube search. Again, we appreciate any information related to what you (and other students) do outside of class.

Do you Facebook? Chapman University Department of Student & Campus Life is on Facebook. You can obtain what activities that take place at Chapman on FB. However, there are many activities outside of campus as well. According to DS, students carpool to Disneyland on the weekend, etc. OC is a pretty big county. There are many places to go for entertainment and activities which is a short 15-20 minutes drive such as the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island, Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, and Irvine Spectrum Center that includes Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 & IMAX are all located south of Chapman, and of course, there are the costal parks and beaches. For locations that are north of Chapman or closer would be Disneyland, Angel Stadium, Honda Center, and Knott’s Berry Farm to name a few. For more information around the City of Orange and neighborhood, there’s a web page for that with annual events, etc. [City of Orange, CA - Points of Interest](http://www.cityoforange.org/about/points_of_interest.asp)

Hope this helps.

OCELITE - thank you for the information. I grew up in Redondo Beach and the South Bay area, and spent much time in OC, so i am familiar with some of what you mention. It is nice to hear the details. You are including places that i was not familiar with. Thank you, also, for the website.

You’re welcome. Glad that was helpful. :)
