I got my merit scholarship reward letter yesterday. I interviewed for Presidential, but I got Director's. I'm disappointed... I was hoping for at least Dean's.
Did you get the scholarship you interviewed for?

Are scholarships only given to people who were interviewed or received a previous invitational letter?

Yes, UNLESS you are a NMF AND you declare USC to be your first choice before the May deadline. In that case NMF’s receive 1/2 tuition scholarships for all 4 years.

Does that also apply to scholarships other than Trustees and Presidential’s, like the Dean’s or International scholarships?

Poncem, I have been advised by both USC and Thornton that there are departmental scholarhships that incoming students are considered for automatically, meaning with no interview. I think (but don’t quote me) that Deans are given similarly, in certain cases. I believe menloparkmom was thinking of Presidential and Trustee only.

hey i heard presidential get an extra 1k a year for national merit. do trustees get this too?

^ If those Trustees recipients are NM finalists, then yes. That $1000 doesn’t come from USC; it’s from NMSP. It’s actually a 3rd party scholarship since NM finalists get it regardless of where they matriculate. But some schools, like USC, will award their own scholarship awards to students who are NM finalists. In this case, USC’s NM finalists automatically get at least a Presidential scholarship.
