Hello - my daughter will be living in 1300 & we're trying to figure out the best meal plan. I don't want to overpay, of course, but don't want her going hungry either. All input welcome! Are there communal kitchens in 1300?

@GertrudeMcFuzz S will be living in 1300 as well. He’s looking for a roommate since there’s still (as of last night) a bed available in his suite. He opted for the 15 meal premium plan. He eats a fair amount and if he ends up playing ice hockey he’ll be eating even more. If it turns out to be too much then he’ll cut back to the 12 meal plan for spring semester.

@mom4cw - thanks! We are having trouble figuring out the advantage of the premium plans - they are almost as expensive as the all-inclusive (I think some are actually more) but provide fewer meals.

I’m still not sure what the real differences are between the various plans…

We haven’t picked a meal plan either…

i think the premium plans give you a credit for some of teh local eateries, which is one advantage depending on ur kid. they also allow a kid to eat whenever they want to(other plans seem to have some meal restriction times), and they allow for a “4th” meal time which means kids can eat from 8PM to 10PM or something like that. they can also use their meals however they want to within the week. eg my kid could use one of his meals to get a friend a meal, get me a meal, etc. he can eat his 12 meals M-W if he wants to, or he could use them M-S. I have a sporadic eater for a kid, who may come home on lots of weekends his first semester. While on campus, He may suddenly realize he’s hungry at 8PM, or just get a frappe one morning at Starbucks and then eat a full blown meal at 4 or 5. so for him, a more flexible meal plan made a lot of sense. i am pretty sure he can go the all you can eat meals at the dorms too. the premuim plans do expire at the end of each week. so if he only ate 8 meals one week, he can not carry the remaining meals to another week.

I figured that it’s better that DS have too many options available than not enough for his first semester.

Thanks for your input everyone. I think we’re getting the J&H all-you-can-eat for D. We live in California, so there will be no weekends at home. My understanding of this plan is that she can walk into J&H at any time as many times of day as she wants & grab a meal, or just a soda, or just a banana, etc. but can also use one meal per meal period at the other campus locations. I hope I’m interpreting that correctly!

yum and she can change next semester if she finds an option she likes more. that is great that she can eat in there as often as she wants. and re an earlier question, I think there is a stove on the groundfloor on 1300 and maybe microwaves in some of the group roooms on the upper floors. i may be making the last part up. u can check with honors dept on that as they are probably very up on what is and is not at 1300. Big move for ur daughter!!!

We did the 15 meals per week for my son and he only averaged 8 meals a week. We are from California also so no chance to go home on weekends. He did spend a lot of Diamond Dollars
