Current TROJANS taking questions

nowhere off campus accepts discresh, but plenty of places (like el cholo's, best mexican restaurant in LA!) give discounts to USC students if you show the card. Never hurts to ask for student discount.

Do you guys know when we will find out about our housing assignments? Is it during orientation?

^ You will get it in the mail sometime at the end of May/beginning of June.

I'm just getting really nervous...

I think i'm going to room in fluor...so how will one get into parties in other dorms? are people really just inviting everyone they know, or are people in dorms really exclusive? i'm afraid about not developing a social life, something i'm generally good at :(

I'm sure someone will invite you. If not, I'll invite you! (I'm a shy boy. I need all the friends I can get. :))

has anyone received finaid info yet from USC? transfer students i mean.

Thanks for the feedback about engineering! I'm trying to find excuses to recommend USC to my junior friends keen on engineering, and your information helps. I was particularly curious about aeronautics as I've heard that Southern California has a stronger presence aeronautics industry than elsewhere in the state and was wondering if regional colleges therefore developed academic programs to feed into that. Or perhaps Harvey Mudd and Caltech are better known in the area for aeronautics programs?

Can't beat Caltech in aeronautics. But then again, does Caltech has a repeat national championship football team? =)

Some of Harvey Mudd's Clinic research is sponsored by Boeing.

USC has plenty of ties to JPL. Maybe not quite so many as caltech, but there are lots of opportunities for students to work with JPL people and summer research.

I even took one class (at USC) from someone from JPL. One of the students in the class asked him a question about caltech, and the guy from JPL just stared blankly and said he doesn't have any relation to caltech at all :) That was a sweet, pro-usc moment right there.

Ned5555 - Both Linens-n-Things and Bed, Bath & Beyond have systems whereby you can shop at your local store, pay & then pick up at a store near campus. Container Store has this also.

Having already shopped for one college kid, I can tell you that around mid-summer, the stores will have a big collection of those XL Twin sheets.

So, you don't need to stuff your luggage with sheets, towels & pillows.

On the other hand, you won't be stuffing your luggage with gloves, hats, boots, winter coats, heavy sweaters, etc.

Learning that our favorite restaurant, El Cholo, gives USC students a discount was an added plus in my daughter's eyes. :) Life doesn't get any better than a meal at El Cholo!!

I have descided that I want to go USC. I know the deposit deadline is MAY FIRST... but in Thailand banks are closed on may first as its a labor day holiday. I need to get the money order/check from the bank and the earliest way I can do and get it postmarked is by MAY SECOND.. will there be a problem?
I called USC admissions last nite and they said "I can't guarentee anything but send it in as soon as possible"
Im getting abit scared.. can someone please clarify the seriousness of the situation?

I posted an answer under the other thread you started, with contact info for the USC Admissions Counselors for International Students. THEY are the ones who can give you answers that count. Good luck, contact them right away & let us know what they tell you.

if you send it overnight mail it will probably get there before other people's will anyways so they most likely wont even notive the postmark. It will be expensive to send it but worth it if USC is where you want to go.

I have a question about housing. Can anyone apply for Marks Hall and Trojan Hall, or are there some kind of requirements? I was looking through the Living at USC booklet for freshman and it said something about Deans' Hall, so I wasn't sure.

Also, USC has four options if those in charge of arranging housing cannot assign me to any of the spaces I requested. Can someone please explain what each option means? For example, which residence halls does "Please assign me to any suite-style space" mean?

Please assign me to any residence hall space.

Please assign me to any suite-style space.

Please assign me to any University Park on-campus apartment space.

Please assign me to any North University Park off-campus apartment space. (Well, I'm not interested in this off-campus option).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been looking at some pictures. The USC stadium is the old '84 Olympic Stadium right? I kind of recognize it.........

Not that I remmember or anything but I've seen pictures of the '84 Olympics.

I don't think freshman have this option. The only apartments are Century and Cardinal Gardens, both across the street from campus.

Thanks, beammeup4. It helped a lot.

Yes, the '84 Olympics did take place around USC. Walking around Exposition Park, you'll see a lot of Olympic rings all over the place, as well as the famous torch at Memorial Stadium that is still lit every 4th quarter during home games. Pardee Tower actually housed athletes during the Olympics. And King Hall, where Cafe '84 is located, is actually called King Hall of Olympic Champions, and Cafe '84 is named appropriately.
