Currently, I'm hating boarding school. :D

Exeter is hard, but it's worth it.

I go to Exeter, and I'm friends with KrnCowLovar. I was talking to her on AIM a few minutes ago, and here I am to COME TO EXETER'S RESCUE!
YAY!
I've learned about fifty times more in these two terms at Exeter than I have anywhere else. Most of the teachers are amazing and Harkness works wonders, in my opinion. I came to Exeter because I love to talk and there wasn't the level of motivation that I wanted from other students at my old school.
AND ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT EXETER?
THE FRIENDS I HAVE HERE.
WTH? NO SOCIAL LIFE? are you KIDDING ME?
we live with our peers, we see them 24-7, many people (aka me and a bunch of my friends) refuse to walk around alone on weekends and stuff. Whenever I have any spare time, I'll go hunt down a friend one way or the other and just chill in their room or something. And again, I really doubt the thing about the varsity game.

If you wanna see some intense school spirit, you gotta come to Exeter during an EA game. When we had our Fall Term Exeter Andover Varsity Football game and Exeter WON, I swear to god, HALF THE SCHOOL must have POURED off the bleachers screaming. The Exeter Andover games I've had (even though I've only played on jv teams) are the memories of a lifetime. They left more of a lasting impression on me than when I was captain of sports teams at my old school. I was benched for these Exeter Andover games, but even from the bench, I was so nervous for the team that I half couldn't bear to go onto the court.

Exeter is what you make of it. When they first come here, people always have their issues procrastinating and have a hard time doing the homework they need to do before class tomorrow, but eventually, we get over it. There's tons of stress all the time, I'll admit. (As in tons, I mean, "OHMYGODENGLISHPAPERBIOLABAHHFML" 24-7) but YES we DO have FUN.
gosh, THANKS A LOT, krncowlovar. See, now I have to run to Exeter's rescue and spend my time writing THIS instead of my lab report.
The story of my life.
But that's okay.
Because if someone reads this and thinks, "Well, Exeter isn't the ***hole that some people make it out to be, it's actually pretty cool," and ends up coming here, it will be worth it.
No matter what krncowlovar *COUGHJOJOCOUGH says. Haha you know I love you.
At the moment not so much.
But you know what I mean.

I loved my classes this term.
Math class was just fun to go to, not because I'm all out, "oh my dear gosh, MATH! how ENJOYABLE and WONDERFUL! I just LOVE to STUDY!" but more because I have the best group of people in the world for my math class.
Our teacher's really laid back and cracks jokes at us during math, when we put up problems on the board, we'll somehow meld together people's names to show that they worked together on the problem (example: walagina).
During English class yesterday, our teacher told us that she would get us PIZZA if we didn't say "like" throughout the whole class. 1 minute after that, a guy said it so our teacher ended up giving us another chance, and so today, we had pizza and soda during english class.
Even then, we had a legitimate discussion about the poem we were reading and were able to discuss our multiple interpretations of it.

For me, at least, Exeter's the ultimate learning environment. Sure, I'd love to sleep in and get more than 7 hours of sleep every night (I usually get somewhere between 5 to 8 hours per night, and the worst I've ever had was during fall term when I procrastinated so much that I only got 2:30)
Teachers here are understanding so they'll be willing to give you extensions if you get really desperate and the people in your dorm are always willing to help you.

what I love MOST about Exeter's technology:
dorm phones which don't cost you anything. You can be talking to someone for hours on end about whatever the heck you want. Bio labs, your EP date, how nervous you are for sports tryouts.

YES, it's true that Exonians are TIRED.
WE ARE SO TIRED.
IT'S KIND OF RIDICULOUS.
BUT
being tired doesn't mean that WE HAVE NO SOCIAL LIFE.
and usually, when you're being given your tour, it's during your tour guide's free period.
meaning that everyone else is in class.
meaning that OH! people aren't gonna be walking on the paths!
surprise, surprise!

That's like the kid that came during winter break and commented on how deserted the campus was.
No ****. Well, I wonder why.

Now, onto my bio lab...

Honestly, you kinda are. This thread makes me want to go to Exeter less and less...

Great save ickle! I fell better about Exeter now!

I kind of am what?
I think I came off as sounding too cocky and crazy. Sorry about that. ];

No, me first post was before you posted!

I've decided that there really is only one school that I would be genuinely happy at and if I don't get in there but I do get into other school's (including Exeter) I will stay at my current school. It won't kill me, the school is fine, really its the people I'm trying to get away from.

oh. haha okay you weren't referring to my post.
just kidding then haha my bad. :P

krncowlovar's great in person.
she just goes crazy on forums.
aka she somehow got herself suspended from neopets.
woohoo for that. :]

okay okay okay
i think i need to get several things cleared up so that people at my school don't go berserk and like mob me with pitchforks. :)

1) PHILLIPS EXETER ACADEMY IS A GREAT PLACE OKAY?!
it really is wonderful compared to some other schools. everyone's friendly and warm and there's no reason not to come here if you want a hard working challenge and knowing that you've gotten into one of the best and prestigous academies in the country.

2) I STARTED THIS THREAD IN A FIT OF ANGER/FRUSTRATION/SADNESS FROM HIGH SCHOOL LIFE. I AM NOT SAYING I HATE EXETER OR THAT I WANT TO GO BAC HOME
i'm not going to think this way forever. it's just because it's the week before finals and i'm scared about how grades are going to go. That doesn't mean i hate this place and i'm ungrateful. i'm not okay? I really do love this place, even through the times when I feel like i don't, and it was one of those days when i posted this up.

3) FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, ANDOVER ISN'T BETTER THAN EXETER. IT JUST ISN'T. AND NEITHER IS ANY OTHER SCHOOL. :D
because we all know Phillips Exeter Academy (and the people) are smart and heh, hot. :D GO BIG RED <3

Honestly, there wouldn't be one place I'd rather be than Exeter. My sister goes to Andover so I may be a little biased. -cough-

The best part about the Exeter Experience is the people that you meet here. Everyone ridiculously good at something: sports, music, art, drama, math, science, charisma. It's unbelievable. People here inspire you to achieve. You see your friends or upperclassmen managing clubs, being part of 5 different singing groups, winning math competitions (may I add how strong Exeter's Math team is?).
Sure, the work is tough. I've heard the work is tougher than that at many colleges (same for Andover my sister says). But in addition to "preparing" you for further life, you actually LEARN something here. The teachers love to teach. If you have a question about anything, something that might stray from course material, they'll answer it because they have that knowledge, and because they love what they do. I personally have a really good relationships with all of my teachers, and so do so so so many Exonians. I walk by a student and a teacher on a path who are cracking jokes back and forth. It puts a smile on your face.
The opportunities available at Exeter are mindblowing. And if you really want to do it, Exeter will have the resources for you. Start a club? You'll get funding. Need help or want support? Your friends and classmates are always willing to help.

And if internet didn't shut off in a minute, I'd talk more about social life and sports.
Anyways, GO BIG RED.

OMG I used to LOVE neopets!! Practically nobody on CC has even HEARD of it!! YAY! You totally made my day ickleronniekins! By the way, LOVE your username!!!

haha neopets?
Exeter is my first choice! of course, I would be ecstatic to get in anywhere. But Exeter rules. Are teachers more lenient in the first term to freshmen?

I don't know much about Exeters student body or anybody's student body considering I havent attended the school. But Tom took the words right out of my mouth, you came on here and your first post was about how you didn't like it. It's great that everyone's trying to defend it now, but no one siad they hated it. Idk where you got that I said I hated it knowclvr or w.e your name is.

I don't know much about your student body, and the first thing I hear is whining from one of the students about work. Sounded like a depressed kid from exeter looking for somewhere to share his.her feelings in my opinion. Sorry that Im not an Exeter-crazy applicant. I would be grateful to get into any of my schools, but I think this forum has enough exeter fanatics. Sorry if I won't kiss the feet of everyone who goes there and feel bad because someone was a little stressed when posting this.

Exeter gives you a mountain of work... Far more than any other HADES school... The 333 is just the tip of some of the insane papers. The 333 is a 15 page paper on any event in american history that is the most important in your eyes. There are some other requirements tho.

That mountain of work can make students that can't keep up feel bad.
That mountain of work can make students feel like there is no hope in the world and lik eeverything sucks.
That mountain of work can make students achieve something that they never thought was possible.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Exeter gives the most work out of all the other HADES schools......

They give the most or at least are tied with other HADES schools?

I met alot of kids from boarding schools at a summer program and they all generally agreed that Exeter had the most. One kid from Andover argued with my exeter room mate and they both wrote on a sheet of paper their weekly schedule of freetime/clubs/class room time/homework time. Exeter kid was like 7 hours of sleep and about 4 hours of solid homework with five or four 8 hour runs a month. Supposedly you'll stay up until 2 doing papers on some nights.

I am just basing it from what other kids said and really from how they described it. I'm sure that it depends on the workload that you take... But don't you go to SPS? How much homework do you have a night?

^^ I wouldn't either. I mean how can you possibly gauge who gives the most work and which school is the most academically challenging. And even if exeter is the most academically challenging I think it matters what your looking for. Some pople are looking to become more well-rounded while being in an academically challenging school.

Don't get me wrong, I loved exeter in my visit at and all. But the more people play it up to be like heaven the more of a turn off it is. Like really, how can anyone be THAT obsessed with a school before ever going. Defending schools we dont even attend yet...its absurd. But ya.

Italian, I have a couple friends at exeter. They love it. But I know one girl always says sometimes academics is all some people care about at the school which makes them embrace the work and a lot of times exaggerate how much work they actually have to do to sound cooler. Or over stress themselves unnecessarily.

All of my friends love Exeter. I was at a football game with one of them and she kept saying that it isn't enough to just want to do homework, you are driven because your classmates are all competing.

I still think that Exeter has more homework. My dad took notes on his iPhone during the tours and average Andover homework was 80% of Exeter's. This was purely in measurable things(Like 7 math problems instead of 8 or write 4 pages instead of 5).

But does it really matter who does the most homework when it all comes down to it? I mean does that make them any better? At the end of the day its about the product of students their producing. And the ones that can deal with it like you said get aloot out of exeter. The ones that can't....well. And unfortunately everyone that chooses to attend these huge BS's believe they can handle the pressure. But many can't.

I'm not going to try and argue that I get more work and whatnot. But I just feel as if you're inferring that people not going to Exeter are obviously not getting a lot of work and that we are useless compared to the great Exonians.
