From the Admissions Committee:

Thank you to each student who took the care and effort to submit one of the 2,325 completed applications received by Phillips Exeter Academy. The Admissions Committee has reviewed each application from a pool of extremely talented individuals and offered admission to 435 for the fall. Admissions decisions will be emailed to families on Monday morning, March 10.

WHAT!!! Only 435 out of 2325!!! Boy, is that a scary figure! This just added to my anxiety. More laying on my bed in a fetal position while sucking my thumb and shivering for me…

@sincostan, just do the math, it is not that bad, one in five (just a bit over) was (will be) offered a spot:).

Why are u at all surprised by the numbers? That’s pretty much the same admit rate as last year.

I guess so, but still. It just adds to the anxiety, waiting, hoping that I’m one of those 435.

Hmmm… those odds aren’t half as bad as I was expecting! 1 in 5, give or take… But can you even imagine wading through that many applications as an AO? YIKES!!!

I think the scary parat is that the decision has already been made. Somebody, somewhere knows exactly who got in. :-SS

You think rejecting 4 out of 5 isn’t tough?

I think @moosiechica88 means that she was expecting a slightly lower acceptance rate (like around 15%) and the 20% caught her off guard. I don’t think she literally meant that she was completely astonished…

I was kind of expecting that for Exeter. I hope all of the other schools’ admits stay the same or increase.

@prepschoolhopes - that’s exactly what I meant! It IS super competitive, but I was expecting it to be worse!!! The day school MB applied to had over 350 completed applications and only 30 spots available, which means that pretty much nine out of every 10 kid either got rejected or waitlisted. So yeah, when I hear that Exeter accepts 2 out of every 10, that does sound a lot better odds than the small school my son applied to. Maybe I’m just not understanding how the admissions process works??? I’m new to all of this, so you’ll have to forgive my ignorance! LOL!

Well, rejecting 8 out of 10 is still very competitive and scary, but I guess it is better than 9 out of 10 being rejected.

Hmmm… Exeter has never been my favorite, but this is still nervewracking. They already know our fate!

oh man this be cray-cray

Exeter be like BALLIN’ with those 2325 applications thoooooooo hehe @stargirl3 (I thought this was the appropriate time to dish out my inner ghetto talk) :D

The applicant pool for a school like Exeter is competitive in general. Its reputation for academic rigor deters those who are not “in the ball park” from applying. So this 20% may not be the same as that 20%…

While we’re talking about our fate being decided, let it be known that it is the same at Andover. https://twitter.com/Admissions01810/status/441244430151200768/photo/1

@Benley - yes, I do agree with you there. It still feels daunting to have a 10% chance of getting into a school, though. At least it was for us! LOL!

Oh my God it’s happening @stargirl3 that picture makes everything seem real…

Oh my God it’s happening.

Has anyone else seen Exeter’s Office of Admission Facebook post? I was trying to read beneath the pen to see if anything hinted my acceptance. NO SUCH LUCK LOL
