cut-off scores/semi-finalist announcements

Does anyone know what percentage of students they look to take from each state?

I know , I was surprised Montana went up 4 points. My son was not too worried looking at the 204 from last year, knowing he had 208, but was shocked he just made it by the skin of his teeth.

Would someone please explain how the cutoff numbers change from year to year?

The number of people in a state taking it and how high their scores are can vary from year to year.

Looking at the number of test takers from Montana and Alaska, it’s actually not that surprising that they would change that much since only 4345 and 2209 juniors took them in each state last year

218 here in TN. :)

Congrats to you!!!

And congrats to you, leapinglizards!

I’m changing the TX cutoff to 215. My daughter had a 215 and made it. Last year’s TX cutoff was 216, and it hasn’t changed by more than a point per year in the past decade, so I’m betting 215 turns out to be the actual TX cutoff.

Thanks for the update on Texas. Glad to see they’re not all going up :)

No one from Missouri yet?

I know how you feel formykids-- I’m dying to hear about CO.

Waiting for Missouri too.

@FooMonChew

Yes it is a magnet school, they have 5 separate magnet programs, and there are about 460 seniors in the school. Son said the 42 is about 20% of the qualifiers from the whole state.

My son got his packet. 209 :slight_smile: Oklahoma
We’re thrilled, my daughter missed it by one point 2 yrs ago.

I’m in missouri and I got in with a 210.

If a 210 is a MO semi-finalist, then cutoff dropped by 1 point from last year.
