I'm a senior and scored 233 on my PSAT last October. I'm from NY, and since the cutoff is around 221 every year, I'm positive I should have at least advanced to semifinalist. I've seen from all these threads that NMSC mailed the packets to schools about 2 weeks ago, but when I asked my counselor yesterday (the 2nd day of school) she said that nothing had come yet!

Did my counselor blatantly just lie to my face?

Are we supposed to get letters at home, or just at school?

Why is this happening?

I asked her when we will find out about semifinalists, and she said she hasn’t received anything yet. I commented that we should have found out by now, and she agreed. I’m not sure if she’s just holding off on telling us until the 15th… but everyone else’s GCs seemed to be fine with telling them beforehand.

Mine received it just the other day, not within the window that people on CC said it should happen within. In fact, other people in my state had their school receive theirs more than a week before mine did. And just so you know, it goes directly to your principal, who will then send it to your counselor.

My daughter’s school adhered to the official date to share the information given by NM Corp. We also knew she was a semi-finalist, but we had to wait until the official information came. Also, when the finalists notifications were sent out, her school received them quite a few days after many on CC received them. Good ole snail mail.

meemsy - try to hold off. Your principal is BUSY right now. You know you are semi, just be patient. I know it’s not easy, but it is considerate. I am in the same boat - my child is certainly NMSF and we’ve not heard anything yet.
It’s the first few days of school. Everyone is busy. Your counselor doubtless has a slew of kids with big and immediate problems (like horribly wrong schedules - my senior year I was scheduled for a double session of drivers ed and NO ENGLISH). Your principal is dealing with whatever has gone wrong, checking on new teachers, dealing with problems with new students and all sorts of paperwork. And, most schools like to make a bit of a fuss and some will want to put a piece in the local paper. That takes a little while to set up. Meanwhile, you don’t need to know for a bit in terms of planning. So, give them at least until the 15th or 16th before you contact anyone.
Again, I know you are wild to know, but just be patient!

The 9/15 date is the date in which schools can talk about it publicly. There is nothing that says that the kids cannot be notified. In fact, with such a tight deadline on these forms, I think they are supposed to give them out as soon as they can.
