I got mine too, probably going in Feb.

Hello Aunt K >;O

Does every remaining candidate receive an invite to CVW?

Is it intended to woo likely appointees, or is it merely the Academy's means of allowing candidates behind-the-scenes in order to make an informed decsion?

Does attendance at CVW help a candidate in the admissions process (eg. increase WCS)?

On the flip side, if for some reason a candidate does not attend CVW, will it negatively affect their file?

Are the escorts always Plebes?

Does the Academy make an effort to match escorts / drags per academic major?

^^^

No

Yes and no. As explained to me, the purpose of CVW is to "sell" the Academy to candidates and let them get a sense of what they are getting themselves into. Invitations are spread out throughout the entire spectrum of candidates (some with LOA and some without).

I was told that some Plebes are req to fill out a report on their "drag", but I don't think it will help or harm you score that much.

No, definently not.

Yes, I think so.

I have not idea, but probably not.

Re: escorts / drags per academic major

definitely not. on my app i put group 1 as my first choice and group 2 as my second. my escort is considering a major in english or poli sci.

"Can anyone state unequivocally whether USNA can offer a CVW if an official NCAA Recruiting Visit has been taken?

I've heard opinions on both sides. The majority seem to indicate that it would be a NCAA violation.

Thanks!" -

paulrevere- I just recieved a CVW letter in the mail yesterday and have already been on a NCAA recruiting visit.

With that said i dont think i am going to take my CVW because I have already visited the academy twice once for summer seminar and once for my recruiting trip. Does anyone think that i should still take my CVW? I just think that it would not be cost efficient since ive already taken a visit there.

Was your recruiting visit a "real" view of USNA life, or was it mostly a sales pitch? If you had the opportunity to attend classes, participate in PT, and time to have candid conversations with current mids, then I would agree that an additional trip may not be necessary for you. If your visit was more of a sales pitch, you may still want to consider CVW.

I would also check with the coach who is recruiting your and/or the NCAA to make sure about the rules, to make sure that you wouldn't damage your eligibility if you attend CVW.

If you decide not to attend CVW, I would suggest that you make sure that USNA knows why you are not going, the level of your continued interest, etc.

Reading all about CVW I can't wait to go. I am already going to the January CVW. I went to NASS and it was awesome and I can't wait to get another taste of Academy Life. Who else is going to the January CVW, and where are you from? TX here. See you there!

hey man i went to NASS too...second session A-2-5....which one did you go to? I'm from Ohio, and I totally agree with you about gettin psyched to visit Annapolis again...I'm going to the 27 March CVW, gunna try to meet up with some squad mates from summer seminar..

Yeah, I went to NASS Session 2 Bravo-4-4. My squad leader told me to come find her when I visit. It will be nice beings how one of my other squad mates might be going that same weekend.

oh yeah that sounds sweet

I was in Session 2 alpha 1-5, on my visit my squad leader came up and basically tackled me at the football game. At first I was scared out of my mind until I realized who it was.

2012 mom?
the visit was a good view of the academy, i got to interact with a lot of mids and see some classes and basically the full campus. plus my NASS leader did a good job while we were there. If I get my appointment I am going there I have already committed to the coach since there really isn't anything to sign. To me since I'm already committed to going there and know for sure thats where I'm going if i get an appointment it doesn't makes sense to go on a CVW

Tielir, what sport are you recruited for?

tielir: Sounds great! Good luck with senior year and getting into USNA!

Heard from the USNA coach of my son's sport (not basketball or football), who said that taking CVW after having taken an official NCAA recruiting visit is not a violation of NCAA recruiting rules. Sorry, can't speak for hoops or the gridiron.

Even though my son has been to the Academy several times, he gets a thrill each and every time. Needless to say, he wants to take the CVW.

He and I both view CVW as yet another opportunity to learn and gain perspective from a different set of Mids, thereby increasing knowledge and potential success.

mom3boys: Wrestling

2012mom?: Thanks

zrmvrhs08, Im going to the january one and I'm also from TX.

GoinToUSNA08: Where in TX are you from? Did you go to NASS?

FYI

For CVW, anyone traveling into BWI and needing transportation to Annapolis you might try Supershuttle. It has been a backup for my Mid but has not had to use yet (has always found someone going in the right direction). It is a lot cheaper than other transportation to Gate One.

WEB: Welcome to SuperShuttle.com for information

Click "Our Locations" then "Baltimore"

As I said she has not had to use it yet. Anyone have experience with this service? I have seen references on other sites.

I used SuperShuttle when I went to CVW back in Nov. Really a great service, and easy to use/find at the airport (in baggage claim). And for anyone going up to CVW, have a great time, enjoy yourself, and don't let the occasional cynic ruin your experience. :-)

I also used super shuttle for the November CVW. It was a great ride to Annapolis; another USNA candidate and I were in the van with two prospies going to St. John's for their CVW equivalent. Interesting conversatation... especially when one of the St. John's prospies asked us why we chose THIS Naval Academy and not the OTHER one...? Not really sure what he was talking about.
