CW Parking?

I've heard several students say they have bought a parking pass for Colonial Williamsburg instead of getting a campus pass, or because they are sophomores. Can anyone give me details about this -- how to get a pass, where you can park, price, etc.?

Thanks!

We don’t know of any Colonial Williamsburg passes that are good for periods longer than a tourist visit. The only student parking opportunities we know of are on campus but maybe some students will respond to this thread with suggestions

i’m not familiar with these passes either… i googled for a few seconds, but couldn’t find anything.

You can buy a parking pass for the CW parking garage located behind Aromas. You have to park at the top of the garage and you pay per semester. It is expensive though (a lot more expensive that the WM parking pass!). Talk to the attendant at the garage but the payment is made to Colonial Williamsburg.

Thanks so much momto2! Just wanted to see if it was possible to get an annual parking pass for CW.

The city has allocated 60 passes for students to park in the Prince George Street garage, and you are guaranteed a spot if you are a passholder. You can park anywhere in the garage but if you will be there overnight you must park on the 3rd level. $250/semester and must be purchased through the city.

Most of the details are here: [City, College work to solve parking issue | Flat Hat News](Flat Hat News)

This puts you reasonably close to old campus, and if most of your classes are there this may be a great option because you have a guaranteed spot (though the price is a bit higher than the campus decals… for now…). The Zable lot is often filled to capacity, and almost all the parking along Richmond/Jamestown road is limited to 2 hours from 9A-5P (almost always enforced). If you’re on new campus the situation is a little bit better but competition for parking spaces is still intense.

Some students choose the city option because they do not qualify for campus parking. Basically if you’re living on campus you have to be a Junior or a Senior. If you’re a day/commuter student you can be any grade level. In the past few years there was a lot available for a limited number of sophomores at the old hospital, but now that the hospital has been torn down and replaced by the School of Ed I’m not sure if those spots will still exist. If you are a freshman or sophomore living on campus but you have a job, volunteer work, or a medical condition that requires you to drive, you can usually get a restricted use decal valid for the W&M Hall lot only.
