D accepted to CofC!

We are from Texas and love the city of Charleston and the campus of the school. D still wants to hear from her other college choices, but is excited to get an acceptance! I'm curious as to what other parents perceptions are of the CofC, as far as academics/social life is concerned. Thanks!

Congratulations on your D's acceptance. We are from VA and our S is finishing first semester (last final today). He enjoys it and has been happy with the vast majority of his classes. He really appreciates the class sizes. The campus itself, has been easy to navigate and nothing on campus is far away. The city andd the campus make it very enjoyable.

In terms of social life, there is plenty for the students to do. Again, the city plays into that but there is always something to do on campus. I haven't heard any complaints about being bored.

All in all, we are very pleased with the college. It has a very good reputation and academic standing and the LAS focus lends alot to the atmosphere. There are no regrets on having chose this school. S was accepted at 6 schools, large and small, and felt the fit here was good. He's happy and so are we.

Cap'n G--So great to read your post. My S has been accepted and hasn't made his final decision yet. We are still waiting on a few other schools. We are from CT and I'm nervous that it's so far from home. Glad to hear that there are things to do on campus. My S is not into drinking and parties so I'm hoping he will find fun things to do in the city or on campus. I am looking forward to visiting since it was my husband who went on the intial tour of C of C. I think I'll visit in the February when I can't take the weather up here anymore. :)

Momsworried - understand the concern. My son isnt into the partying or drinking either, yet very happy. He certainly knows students that are into such things and probably considers some friends, but he feels it's just not for him. He finds plenty of other things to do (video games, student activities, etc.). His major is Marine Biology and he rows for the Crew team. Those appear to be his real focus.

He noted with some glee that it was 70 yesterday.

As a note, there is a fairly healthy contingent of students at C of C that are from the NE.

Cap'n G--Thanks for the encouragement! The 70 degree weather is definitely a deciding factor for my S since he is a golfer. He knows C of C recruits for the golf team but he's hoping to play club golf or perhaps be a "walk on". He's a great golfer for a northern boy! :)
