d and f policy of uc...

do UCs really care about ds and fs?????

one senior i know have had a lot a fs...
fs in ap euro,ap calc,spanish2,honor english 11,physics...and probably ds in some classes....
but he got into uc davis...
i dont know what to say...

Well it depends...

Firstly, I think it is said that if you receive any grades below a C- your admissions will be retracted.

Now, in many cases I hear the UC in question simply offers the student to retake these courses in a community college during the summer prior to the start of the fall semester and if he makes satisfactory grades he is allowed in.

I would also suspect that it depends on the admission. For example, last year UC Merced underadmitted by about 50% (they wanted ~800 and got ~450) so I would imagine that UC Merced last year would be more lenient towards Ds and Fs than say, UC Davis, which overadmitted by about 900 last year (which leads me to question your anecdote...did that happen last year?).

no.. happended this year he is in my ap euro which is soph class in my school cause he failed that class

if he is applying for a UC this year how could he know he got in? Admission decisions are not out until the spring, and the UC's don't have EA/ED. If he's telling people he applied this past fall and was accepted, he's lying ...

Right I'm thinking that too.

I thought he was talking about someone else from last year...

nope, he's talking about a senior that failed into his sophmore class this year.

the guy is obviously lying.

“D” and “F” grades during the senior are not recommended. Although we maybe, and I stress this is a weak maybe, able to allow one failing grade, depending on the course and circumstance, any more would place the student in a difficult situation. Please note that any failing grade places your admission decision into jeopardy. We always recommend you pass all your courses with passing grades.
I also stress that the admissions decisions for fall 2007 have not been released from our campus yet. If the student is a senior this year, 06-07, he has not yet been admitted to our campus.

he already got into uc davis

dnduswo,

I think I'm going to defer to UCD Admissions on this. Something tells me that he knows a bit more about when people are being admitted or not.

It sounds to me like the person in question is pulling your leg.

are you talking about a person who has ELC and is guaranteed admission?

what is elc?

dnd:

my guess is that your senior colleague is bragging. With a lot of D's and Fs, he wouldn't even qualify for any UC due to his low gpa. Come spring, he'll probably announce that he's going to a juco to save money bcos DAvis is too crowded.

hi, my junior year I got a d in trig and my ib schedule didnt give me the time to retake the class. Now im in precal sl. If i pass this class and score well on the ib test will it help or will uc’s still frown upon it? I’m really scared because i feel like i am a good student it’s just math that makes me look bad. Also im not majoring in anything math related… does that matter?

First, you should have started your own thread, not brought a 2007 thread back to life LOL.

And did you not read post #8. And you should go see your GC.

The short answer is that UC will not see your senior grades for admissions (only in rare occasions do they ask for senior grades). Thus, likely no help.
