D is a freshman at an OOS university. She is transferring to an instate community collge for next semester. How do I get the financial aid transferred?

Someone later may correct me – but I’m almost positive you have to reapply for fianncial aid at the school she’s going to attend.

Au is correct. You can’t transfer financial aid. You have to apply for financial aid at the new school by going into FAFSA and putting the new school on the list of schools you want to receive it. The school when then process your financial aid application and award Aid. You should receive the same Pell grant for a semester as long as the student is full time.

Any campus based aid (such as SEOG, WS, Perkins) would depend on the new school’s policies for awarding them - it is likely they would not have any left at this time of year (they are limited funds and each school sets their own policies for awarding them and for the maximums they will award). Stafford available is the same up to the COA of the school. Mix of sub/unsub may be different if the schoool has a lower COA and therefore there is less ‘need’.

Also check if the school has any other paperwork required. My son’s school had a financial aid form to complete that my daughter’s school did not.
