Hi,

If I apply to a school as a transfer student for next semester, and I am accepted, will I be able to review my financial aid award before deciding whether or not I actually want to make the transfer?

Thanks!

Yes. It works just like it did for admission to your first college/university.

can I chime in with a question. How does transferring financial aid from fafsa work?

Godfather, what happymom says is correct IF you get your forms in on time.

Fruit, FAFSA is federal money that will follow you to accredited schools. The FAFSA has a place for you to fill out what schools it should be sent to, so you would just change/ add the new school.

college_ruled: ok so all i need to do is change the school code on my fafsa right. I’m a little confused because i’m at a univeristy for the first semester of my freshman year but I want to transfer to a community college for spring 2011. However my financial aid is for a whole year for the university I am at. So my question is will I be able to cancel that aid and recieve aid for the community college?

I’m sorry for the confusion, but I think I am mistaken on the advice I gave you above. If you are eligible for a pell grant then that will transfer over, but it’s possible for colleges to run out of money for other federal aid (such as federal work study). In addition, the pell grant amount will be less if your cost of attendance is less at the community college than it is at your current school.

Financial aid to you account is dispensed once per semester, so your current school hasn’t received any federal aid for second semester yet.

well for this semester I was awarded cal grant B, a federal pell grant a federal seog grant, a state university grant, work study, perkins loan, subsidized loan, unsubsidized loan, and a parent plus loan. I’m going to be going to a cc next semester so obvioulsy I wont need loans and I’m not interested in work study. What my question really is, is it possible to get aid at a different school via fafsa even though I already filled out the 2010/2011 fafsa for the university I’m at now. I just want to drop out here and transfer to cc and I need to make sure I’m going to have no problem recieving aid there. If this helps my sister goes to cc and with my fathers income she recieves full coverage and has cal grant B as well. I just need to know if my being at this university and recieving aid here for the first semester is going to hurt my chances.
