D/F in an AP course-- CSUs

Hey!

So, I am a high school senior that is taking 4 APs and I’m doing very poorly in AP Comp Sci A–one of the most difficult APs course given at our school.

I currently have a D/F borderline grade and the final will definitely plunge me to an F. Like come on, I need at least an A- on the final to secure a D. (My average test scores are 60%s). I’ve been studying for this class for hours and to no/negative change. But, I am withdrawing from the course the second semester–it’s official.

I’ve talked to my counselor about this situation and she has been very helpful. I will be with her and she will help me contact my campuses on explaining why I got the grade I got.

I am not a bad student AT ALL, my grades are pretty decent. I’ve taken 9 AP courses and mostly got A’s and B’s–few C’s. (some of the C’s were from AP/Honors courses)

Will having an F in AP Comp Sci A make the Cal States rescind my potential acceptances or does it depend on the campus?

GPA: 3.2(10-12th)
SAT: 1220; 610 Math, 610 Reading

CSU campuses:
CSULB
CSUF (priority -bc our school is near)
CSUN
CPP
CSULA

If you can explain which campuses are most likely to be more forgiving on a failing grade that would be AMAZING.

Thank you!

Having your acceptance rescinded is campus dependent. The more competitive the CSU campus, the higher chance of possibly having your acceptance rescinded.

Most schools are willing to work with you and try to come up with options to maintain your provisional admission if you contact them early.

CSULB might be the only CSU of concern. If you had applied to Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State, then those would also be campuses which might not be as forgiving.

If you are working with your GC, then they should be able to help with your situation.

CSULB’s provisional admission contract:
**

  1. Completion of all senior year courses with a grade of “C” or higher.
  2. Completion of all CSU A-G subject requirements with a grade of “C” or higher by the end of the Spring semester prior to enrollment.
  3. Graduate from High School by the end of the Spring semester prior to your enrollment.

Failure to meet these conditions will result in the rescinding of the admission offer which will prevent enrollment. If enrollment is desired in the future, a new application must be submitted for that term and applicants must meet all of the admission requirements in effect at that time.**

Best of luck and please come back to update on your outcomes.

with a 3.2/1220, i think LB and CPP are probably a reach anyhow. Northridge is probably a coin toss. If Fullerton is ‘local’ you will probably get in. LA, has become much more competitive and, honestly, I don’t have a good sense for where there threshold will be this year,

I’d contact all of them today, let them know your situation and ask how you can mitigate the grade - maybe an on-line class or something. then confirm with an email.
good luck.

CSUN’s impaction information, including last year’s thresholds, is at https://www.csun.edu/admissions-records/freshman-impaction . 3.2 GPA and 1220 SAT score would give an eligibility index of 3780, just below the non-local threshold of 3800 for last year. This year could be different, of course.
