D Grade Emergency!!

I received 2 D’s in English and Math at CC this spring semester, and I am extremely depressed in fear that it will prevent me from transferring to a UC. I’m scared that I have to retake the courses, and it will also heavily impact the time in which I will be able to transfer (my major is computer science and getting D’s is not acceptable at all). I received poor grades this semester in comparison to my fall semester because I had a personal/family situation going on, which really hindered my academics and my attendance during that time period.

I’m panicking, and I really don’t know what to do at this point. I feel like my life is over.

What UC were you hoping to go to? Some of the tougher UCs won’t give you any slack while the lower ones might if you’re lucky.

UCLA. Yeah, I don’t think I can get by with them.

You’ll definitely have to retake them. You should be able to use academic renewal, assuming you’re at a California CC. Use summer to take extra courses. It’s not unusual to take 3+ years before transferring.

I do go to a California CC. I appreciate the fact that you brought up academic renewal. I’ve never heard of academic renewal before, but I will look into that. And sorry, but I hope I comprehend your presented options correctly… I can either retake them or consult with a counselor about academic renewal or I have to retake them despite of academic renewal?

I don’t know where you got the “3+ years to transfer” from, but even if that’s the case, I prioritize in graduating within 5-6 years (apparently it takes 5 years for most CS majors to graduate). Given the tremendous load of courses required in my major, I have no choice but to take summer courses to catch up on all the maths and sciences. Me not making a satisfactory grade in English class is honestly the least of my concern at this point since there’s only 2 required courses in this section. On the other hand, I simply cannot screw up on my path with math and science because just one mess up will get me off track.

You should retake them. Getting a C or better the 2nd time around will remove the D. Check your CC’s policy.

STEM majors often require courses in series, and sometimes you cannot get all your prereqs done in 2 years.

UCLA has a very low acceptance rate for CS since it’s highly competitive and the GPA percentiles are very high so you should look into TAG at other campuses too.

In addition to using this forum you should be meeting with a transfer counselor at your school to go over your next steps

I think if that every school would actually reject you if you don’t have that English class. So you have to go back and retake it.

Hi everyone:)
I have gotten myself into a tight spot and am wondering if I could get some input on my situation, even though I am somewhat preparing myself for the worst possible scenario. So, I have recently been admitted into UCLA as an art history major. I recently dropped 2 classes at the CC I am attending (which I already reported to UCLA admissions). While awaiting UCLA’s reply, I just found out that I am most likely going to receive a C for a major prep course. So my question is, am I most likely going to be rescinded from UCLA?
