D in an AP class?

Currently working up from an F in my AP Stat class, but she curves the grade too and I think this quarter the curve is almost 20%. Sounds good, right? Not if you have a 36. Anyway, don't need the scowls, I have to work to keep a roof over my head and all my other grades are stellar (doesn't help that math isn't my strong point). I've been getting tutoring from her and she said the effort I've been putting in shows her I want to succeed. With that said, she also told me that if I get a B on the chapter test next Tuesday (which I've been studying and going to tutoring hardcore for), she'll do a little "something" for my grade. Basically, if I'm teetering between a D and a C, she'll push me up a bit. I got a C last quarter for my average, so another C would be good because with the curve I'd get that, not to mention it would make my semester average a C, and in AP world that's basically a B AND passing.

But...hypothetically...would a college hate you and dismiss you if they saw a D on a report card, given the class was AP? I know it's not a beautiful grade, but just for argument's sake. Oh, and test grades are like 95% of our grades so every single one counts. Not to mention the midterm that's coming up, too.

well, it definitely won’t look good. it all depends on which college (mit or community or state?)

Well it’s going to be a private university which will be out of state. DEFINITELY not MIT, but I figured any bad grade like that isn’t a plus. I’m more worried if it will make or break my acceptance chances.

Again, totally depends on level of college. If it’s not a significantly competitive school you could be fine. Especially if you’re full pay!

A D in AP Stats will be hard to overcome at a college such as BU. However, you have a compelling personal story which may overcome some of your stats.

Good luck.

that’s what my guidance counselor said - she mentioned the fact that me working and everything could factor into their thoughts of me and my potential of overcoming obstacles, but I don’t want to depend on that as my crutch.

Yeah, don’t use it as a crutch. If you can’t bring your grade up, it will hurt you (duh). Whether it affects your app… all depends on which college.
