Need some help here. I got accepted into UCLA. I already fulfilled IGETC and major prereqs, but I got a D in my 3 unit English class this semester and now I only have 58 units completed! I haven't received my grades for my other classes this semester, but I'm sure I maintained my GPA. I would retake the class over the summer, but it isn't offered then. I'm notifying UCLA right now, but what are the chances they'll rescind my admission?

pretty high, to be perfectly honest.

you've got to give us more. overall GPA, major GPA, what is your major.

i have a friend that had their application rescinded from UCLA. it takes less than a D to get it taken away, your overall GPA better be good and your major GPA better be stellar.

I suggest you get ready to write an appeal. Not to freak you out, but if they let you do an appeal, send it out ASAP. Better safe than sorry!

I got accepted with a 3.23 GPA as an Anthropology major (BA)

I haven't got my grades for this semester (except for the English class), but I'm confident my GPA hasn't dropped. How do you calculate major GPA?

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but I have heard that they are super hard core about completing 60 units by the end of the spring semester. And honestly, your GPA is not stellar so I would say your best bet is to just try and appeal if they rescind you.

Major GPA= calculate only the classes required for anthro.

Maybe you can ask to be allowed to take it at another community college?

see if you can retake the class over the summer.

You'll probably have to retake the exact same class though.

Less than a D? What happened to your friend?

4 C's, that's what happened. A C is technically passing, but not only did it drop her spring GPA to a 2.89, it also dropped her overall GPA to 3.11. Her major GPA is 3.5, not very impressive, and it was achieved by 4 major prep-courses.

in a non-impacted major too.

4C's... (whistle)..

If that class wasn't your English requirement then you should be able to repeat it over the summer.

It's not so much the class that should worry you but being under the required amount of units. All you can do is try though. :)

It honestly breaks my heart to hear of people who are rescinded from their dream schools. It's one thing to get rejected in the first place, but to get accepted and then booted? It's like salt in the wound.

KitKat42008 is right, they are very strict about the required 60 units. If you had 60 units and you messed up a class it wouldn't be as bad as not having the 60 units.

I suggest you look up your acceptance admission contract to see what they say about not having 60 units, I believe it should be there.

Like KitKat42008 said if you get a chance to appeal do it ASAP. And good luck.
