If I were you, I would go to the professor and tell them this is the semester before you transfer and that you must absolutely get a B and ask him exactly what you need to do for it, and then do it. Don’t fudge up your admission process over one dumb detail.

I agree with medusa. You gotta give it your all before considering even thinking about getting the C. I’m sure UCDavis would be perfectly fine with the C, taking into consideration your strong Cum. GPA. but not sure about the other two, especially LA.

Best of luck to you! [:

P.S.-I wish I could have taken three units…LOL. Then I would have probably gotten a job to get some $$! ;__;

hard to think that 3 units will take that much of a toll on a person, but then every person has their own subjective experience. I think you can try maybe taking some less hours at work so maybe you can focus more time on the coursework

the sad part is i am putting a lot of effort into this class… and obviously I will do all i can do get at least a B, but English is some subjective stuff.

I just want to know the policy, it ll help me sleep at night. Anyone?

How much do you need this class? I would consider dropping if it’s not important to your pre-reqs/igetc. You should also call admissions to each of the schools and ask.

dude, you are taking 3 units and you can’t keep above a C and you are transfering to ucla and berkeley. I don’t believe this. Sack up, and get a better grade.

al3harrington:
If you’ve completed Composition & Critical Thinking, those are the only 2 courses required in the IGETC pattern for UCs. The 3rd English class isn’t required under Area 1 of IGETC ( The IGETC Curriculum worksheet is right in front of me ).

Counselors often give students bad advice when it comes to what they need for IGETC. I would get an IGETC worksheet + unofficial transcripts to decide what you need/don’t need.

Absolutely your admission can be rescinded. First of all you shouldn’t be just taking 3 units regardless if you’ve met the minimum transferrable units to transfer. If you cannot handle just one 3 unit class in the entire semester, it just really shows that you have slacked off. I would really recommend you to try harder in that class so it doesn’t bite you back when you send the schools you’ve been admitted into your final official transcript.

A critical thinking class isn’t that subjective. You either hit the points addressed in the prompt, or you don’t. If you feel as if your instructor is short shifting you, then you need to go to them and address your concerns. If you’re getting a C at this point, you do not have any time in wasting to meet with your instructor for assistance.

I agree with MakeBank24. I’ve already completed the minimum, I only needed one unit this semester to make me have the 60, but I’m taking 19 complete units, upper-division I might add. But the choice is up to you. As someone else had said, I really suggest you talk to your professor, and if that doesn’t work, I’m sure your CCC has a Learning Center/Writing Center where you can go to and get an English tutor to help you with your homework.

You could always ask for an extra credit assignment to boost your grade, but before you do make sure you have an idea of what you would want to do, such as if your reading “The Great Gatspy”,etc. then ask to write a critical analysis of one of the characters, themes, symbols, etc. It’ll show that you have a plan and really are trying to get a better grade. I don’t know if that helps but it’s worth a shot and has worked for me.
