I live in california and i happen to notice that most dance majors requires jazz ballet and modern dance. However, im not good at any of them. Im into hip hop and funk styles like popping and locking. So i am wonder if theres any colleges in california that offers hip hop dance majors.

UC Irvine doesn't have a hip-hop major, and the dance major requires ballet, modern, and jazz up to advanced levels, but UCI students with any major can try out for some of the best collegiate hip-hop and street dance teams in the country. Kaba Modern, CADC and Common Ground compete in major events and grads have become dance instructors and professional choreographers. The Kaba Modern Crew took third place on "America's Best Dance Crew" on MTV in 2008. Kaba Modern took first place in the 2007 USA Hip Hop Championship and second place in the 2007 World Hip Hop Championship. And the MCIA (Modern Completely Insane Anteaters) Dance Team provides hip-hop entertainment for UCI basketball games, performs at clubs around Southern California (Century Club, Bellagio, Diablos, etc.), and has done halftime for the LA Clippers.

All students can take hip-hop classes at the Anteater Recreation Center, and the UCI Dance Dept. is interested in all forms of dance. Rennie Harris was invited for a workshop last year, and faculty members attended it.

Hi. This is what I would do. Look for a school around LA major in something else… Then start dancing at Millenium in Hollywood. If you are good you will be noticed and picked up for commercial jobs. Good Luck!!

how do you try out for MCIA? Do they teach you a routine or do you have to make up your own routine?

confuuused – For up to date info about MCIA, here’s the current contact: [UCI dos: Clubs & Organizations Detail](http://search.dos.uci.edu/organizations/detail.php?id=387)
