Dance Minor at University of Rochester

My daughter has done 10 years of ballet, jazz and lyrical dance. I would like to know the information regarding the dance styles of the university

You might have searched for and found the brand new University of Rochester Program of Dance & Movement website, but here it is for everyone else: [University of Rochester Dance and Movement](Program of Dance and Movement : University of Rochester)

I always highly recommend interested students and parents to give their department of interest a call to ask specific questions. Here is their number: (585) 273-5150. Contact emails are provided on the website too.

There are two 26-credit minors to choose from: Dance and Movement Studies.

If you would rather only pursue a 3 course (12-credit) cluster in dance, then there are four options to choose from: Dance & Performance, Improvisation & Creative Process, Mind-Body Somatics, and Movement & Culture.

The U of R also has 248 student-run organizations, and 10 of them are for dancers, including the Ballet Performance Group, Radiance, Louvre, D’Motions, Sihir Bellydancing, Swing Dancing, and a few others… Check them out under “Performing and Fine Arts” here: https://sa.rochester.edu/clubs/

My kid is in BPG. Loves it.

Louvre is a more intense group and you need to be very good to be in it. My kid has many years dancing but doesn’t want to commit that much. BPG has varying levels of experience.

My d was in Louvre and loved it. If you want to see what they do (jazz & some modern, mostly), they have a youtube page.

Another Louvre Performance Ensemble mom here. Most (if not all) dance groups, including Louvre, do all their own choreography. So if your daughter is interested in that she will have the opportunity.

Sorry for the late post, I’m not on very often.

I think it’s all the student groups doing their own choreography. My kid told me she was going through her dance and realized she didn’t want to be picked because she didn’t want the pain of teaching and enforcing it.

BTW, I saw the Louvre spring 2011 show. It was terrific.

Hey, look at this!
