My college's dance team tryouts are Sunday, and I really want to make it! I love dance, but I've never been super serious about it and I've never done anything like this before. All I've really done is taken classes and done musical theater and stuff, but although I've always wanted to, I've never participated in a performance for strictly dance such as a recital or competiton. What can I do so that I have a better chance at making the team? I have trouble remembering combos a lot of the time when it comes to audition and stuff...that's why I got placed in technique only for the student dance company.

the girls that I talked to seemed pretty chill, and I really want to make the team because it would be mad fun...but I need some help.

Remember to relax at your try out-- the adrenaline of nerves may help you perform and that’s great, but if you let it take total control you may have a harder time remembering the steps.

Try out and if you don’t make it, take lessons and try to improve for the next year. That’s what I did for tennis :)

This sounds cheesy, but just try your best and SMILE. Part of your score will be showmanship and appearance. So stick to the dress code, wear make-up, wear earrings (if allowed), and make your hair look nice.

Pay attention to the combination(s) they give you. If their hand is in a fist, make it a fist. If they look to the left, you look to the left. Those little details count, and the more you pay attention to them while you’re learning, the more your retain when it’s time for the final audition.

Good luck!
