That’s really interesting about that girl – I wonder if there was some sort of special circumstance, such as Dartmouth not receiving her test scores/transcripts/etc or making some sort of mistake in the application review process. Still, there is hope! It’s kind of sad, really – the more it looks like the waitlist isn’t going to work out, the more badly I want to go to Dartmouth!

^ SAME =/

My bet: development admit or recruited athlete. In other words, someone who fills a specific open slot/need.

Guess our hope is dim once again. I heard from someone who contacted them that they will be updating us on the waitlist in the next 6 to 9 days.

Well, I figure there is at least some hope, albeit very little. If they really felt like they were pulling very few from the waitlist, I feel as though they would have let most of us go already (as many schools already have). No news is good news, I think!

Maybe the people lingering on the waitlist don’t really matter to them and they’ll just deal with us later. Maybe they know they’re not going to take anyone off and just want to appear more selective.

I really doubt they’d leave us on the waitlist if they knew they weren’t going to take any of us off. It would be a dick move.

I hope they haven’t cut us all off the waitlist yet because they’re thinking of expanding the class size and a lot of kids are deferring/getting off other waitlists.

Do you think they may cut off a huge portion of waitlistees and leave some on like a summer or prolonged waitlist?

Damn so we’re going to be hearing from them this week sometime??

I just want this to be over with. If they’re not going to waitlist they should at least tell us.

^ Exactly. I mean just get it over with. How are we supposed to enjoy our summer and get pumped for the first year of college if Dartmouth is constantly looming over our heads?!

If there is any good news, make sure to update the forum
I’d love to congratulate you!

Good luck fellas.

I hope at least some people get off rather than none (which would mean at some point we had a chance). If none then we truly wasted our time all for nothing.

In Dartmouth’s defense, it still doesn’t know its final numbers. Right now, it’s experiencing summer melt – when matriculated students choose to accept waitlist offers of admission from other schools. Another factor, this one unique to Dartmouth, is that the school doesn’t know which students will take gap years (and therefore be '15s) until later in the summer.

So, just hold on. As hard as it may be, try not to worry about it.

P.S. A bit of advice: don’t get hung up on Dartmouth. Statistically, it is very unlikely that you will be admitted, so learn to love the institution to which you’ve matriculated.

Have they released any kind of decisions yet about the WL? I haven’t heard anything yet.

Perhaps by the end of this week or this weekend. Also, does anyone know if they rank the waiting list. I know they say they don’t, and Harvard says they don’t either, but I read on another thread about a girl saying how she called and got a rank from Harvard waitlist.

I agree – I think we’ll hear by the end of this week; it would coincide perfectly with their “we’ll have more information in three weeks” email they sent out to us, and at this point, they probably have a somewhat clear picture of what their numbers look like.

Also, I doubt they rank; How can you do that when you have 900+ kids on the waitlist? I wouldn’t be surprised if they separated applicants into a couple of tiers: really desirable, somewhat desirable, etc., but outside of that, I think it really does have to do a lot with plugging looking at the unique talents, passions, and backgrounds of candidates and using them to plug in gaps in the class.

Princeton has said the reason that their waitlist is so large is to accommodate for any kind of possible gap that they could need to fill in their class demographic. Hence, there’s no reason to rank the waiting list–they just take whomever they need to (at least, in the first wave). I assume Dartmouth has a similar system.

Ok I just got an email - apparently no final decisions as yet. Anyone else heard?

I got that email as well…Did everyone receive the same email?
