Congrats to all accepted and wishing the best of luck to all deferred/rejected (any school would be incredibly lucky to have you). As for accepted 23s, does anyone know when we are supposed to receive our “snail mail” letter of acceptance?
not sure, didn’t even know we received something like that. So was there no correlation with date changes and acceptance?
I looks like there’s not, though my dates changed and I was accepted. Can others weigh in?
I think the correlation was real. For my son, no request for mid-semester grades, no dates changed, no financial aid follow-up requests, and he was denied. Will see this week if its the same for Tulane, where he had dates change and financial aid requests last week before upcoming decisions.
Hey guys! Just submitted my RD application, do you know if they take self-reported scores on the common app? Also, is it a good idea to submit SAT subject test scores that are high 600/low 700s? Thanks!
@screamingkettle Your Emergency Medical Responder and EMT background are extremely impressive. Congrats on that. In my state, you have to be 18 and a high school diploma (or a GED, which this state won’t allow you to obtain unless you are at least 18) to do either, so those cool experiences are just not available to everyone…
@pappernich Same in my state, but WOW what a story!!!
@LCool23 I submitted a 700 for lit and an 800 for world history. I would say probably submit them, but it may depend on the subject.
Dates changed and was accepted
What do you guys mean by dates changing?
@dairyqueen The download dates on our financial aid changed.
Based on the estimations for the ED round - the estimated numbers below were indeed daunting:
2474 ED applicants
574 Total acceptance
25 25 low-income - Quest Bridge
138 Recruited athletes
84 15% legacy
28 5% sibling or other connection
55 First generation college
63 11% live abroad
181 Remaining pool
This is very informative (and truly daunting). How did you gather these figures? From the press release? Are these figures the same as previous years?
Yes - it was gathered through the press release - pertinent portions below:
“Dartmouth extended offers of admission yesterday to the most diverse group of early decision applicants ever in a year that has also seen a record number of early decision applications. Offers went to 549 students through the binding early decision option and to an additional 25 low-income students through the QuestBridge National Match Program…Early decision applications to the Class of 2023 rose 9 percent to a record 2,474…Eleven percent of the accepted student live abroad, with the most coming from the United Kingdom, Canada, and China…The accepted cohort is evenly balanced by gender; a third are Americans of color and 138 are recruited athletes. Children of Dartmouth alumni represent 15 percent of acceptances; an additional 5 percent have non-parent relatives who are Dartmouth graduates or current students.”
I did not look at last year’s data but it seems like very year it is becoming harder and harder to get into these competitive schools.
Yes. It’s hard. Elite universities and colleges are getting more and more diverse which is a good thing. But, if you are a boring white kid from the suburbs and want a very diverse school, then it’s hard to get a spot.
Is there anyone here who was admitted ED and can tell us when Admitted Students Days are in the spring? I’m not jumping the gun but I’m trying to make a list of all of S19’s possible re-visits so we can get a handle on what it may look like.
This is what the admitted page for my son states:
“CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE TO DARTMOUTH COLLEGE!
Dear Class of 2023:
Welcome to the Dartmouth community!
Over the next several months, “Welcome to Dartmouth!” is a phrase you are likely to read and hear often, but I hope each time it generates a bit of excitement and anticipation. I know that you will have many questions as you prepare to come to Dartmouth. Our New Student Orientation program, facilitated the week before fall classes begin, is designed to help you navigate your transition to Dartmouth—academically and socially.
A whole team of students, faculty, and staff are working to prepare for your arrival in the fall. Starting in the spring of 2019, you will begin to hear from them on how you can prepare for your college career. Whether it is information on computing, Dartmouth Dining, undergraduate housing, or how we support each other as a community, this communication will begin to shape your understanding of Dartmouth.
While we know you and your family might be eager to make travel plans, we will not be able to post dates for New Student Orientation until late spring.
In the coming months, this website will be an important resource for you and your family. As mailings are sent and information is communicated to new students, you can always turn here for the latest information. Until that point, have a wonderful few months”
@founddad thanks. Looks like they don’t expect RD kids to go to an admitted students day in April since they are already committed.
Yes it seems that the events in April are only for students who have committed and have confirmed their intent to be admitted into Dartmouth and not for students who are accepted but weighing their options: "Admitted students are invited to visit campus during any of our April programs called Dimensions of Dartmouth. Pre-programmed visit days include campus tours, information sessions, faculty presentations, student-run events, and financial aid open office hours.
They however mention the following: “We also have plan-your-own visit days called most weekdays in April. Visitors can access detailed schedules for these programs by the end of March each year.” it maybe worth it to contact them to see if that is open for potential students who have been accepted but have not made a decision yet.
