My S applied ED and never got an interview email. We are in a big city so plenty of alumni. Early Dec, S wrote and asked for an interview. He got a recent grad and S got to ask a lot of questions. S was admitted so the fact that he didn’t get the interview email prob didn’t mean anything.
I live in the Boston suburbs and there are tons of alumni here so it makes sense I was contacted for an interview.
hi. I am applying RD and i Just wanted to ask what ya’ll think my chances are with a 1420. I’m an international student from kenya
Did anyone from FL get an interview? :((
Sorry just kind of freaking out…
Hi, I conduct D alumni interviews. We are given a list of names of local applicants. We know nothing other than your school and home town. Your being asked to interview is 100% due to availability of alumni interviewers in your area, and 0% about how you are as an applicant. It is a nice opportunity to tell the school more about yourself. Do not be nervous, just try to use this to your advantage. If you did not get an interview and feel it could really help you (ie explain something you could not express on your application, or you happen to interview really well), email the school and they may be able to set up a skype interview. Good luck to you all!
Hi @Greenandold, thank you so much for posting here! That’s really helpful information. If I’m from an NYC school, should I be worried that I haven’t been contacted (I’m assuming there are a lot of alumni in NYC, especially since my friend who goes to my school already got an interview?) Do you think it’s worth waiting another week or so before emailing and seeing if I can set up a Skype interview?
Thank you very much!!
@19szhang, although there should be many alumni in your area, there are probably more applicants! I would go ahead and contact the alumni ambassador office (they set up interviews) at: aad@dartmouth.edu.It cannot hurt you to ask! Good luck!
@Greenandold Thank you so much!!! I definitely feel like I didn’t talk enough about my future goals and why dartmouth in my application so it’s nice to know that I can ask for one
@Greenandold s19 sent and email and was just told that he may or may not get an interview. So I guess we just wait.
so getting or not getting an interview doesn’t indicate any chances of admission/ interest?
I have a weighted gpa for each of my last 2 years of high school (junior and senior year) of a little bit more than a 4.0. I took 2 honors courses and 5 regular courses during my junior year, am currently involved in many extracurriculars like robotics, NHS, and many violin related events. Went to Interlochen center for the arts in 9th grade and have many hours of volunteer experience. My senior year (this past semester), i took one honors course and 2 aps and ended up with one b in ap physics c because i never studied or reviewed for tests. Apart from that, i have gotten mostly all A’s, some a minuses and like 2-3 bs throughout high school. I got a 30 on the act and I would be a the 4th generation to attend Dartmouth (legacy)? My grandfather donated a lot to the institution. I think my essays and rec letters are great Do you think I stand out? How likely do you think they will consider me during RD admissions process? Thanks!
@ krisp, nope not from what I’ve heard
@jhede1 no one here can chance you. It’s up to the admissions office. And why would you admit to not studying for Physics? Not sure any college would be thrilled to have a student who blew off a class.
@krisp13, absolutely not. Interviewers are given a list of applicants in the area. It is purely based on geography and interviewer availability. Many kids who are accepted do not have interviews.
Scheduled my interview in 2 wks. Alumni emailed me. In NC
Hi guys, another question about interviews ( I know they’re getting repetitive). I’m from a midwestern state and I except there’s extremely limited available (if any) for Interviewers where I’m from. I submitted my application Dec 24 and I was wondering how long I should wait before I try and request an interview on Skype. I have so many thing I’d like to talk about that I feel weren’t represented adequately in my application. So, how long do you guys think I should wait before I request one. I know they have so many candidates and they have to sort a lot of them for interviews so I don’t want to seem overanxious. Thanks best of luck to everyone!
@shekw19 I talked to a friend of mine in town who does interviews and she said Dartmouth hasn’t even given her a list of names yet. Interviews are supposed to be concluded by Feb 18. We are in the Midwest. So, I would just wait a little longer and see if you are contacted. I emailed Dartmouth but all I got was the standard answer that not everyone gets interviews and that it doesn’t affect decisions.
@homerdog great thanks for the reply! And hey, maybe you got the standard answer because you’re already on the list to be interviewed and they just haven’t contacted you yet
@shekw19 we are pretty sure S19 will get an interview. Kids from our town usualy get one and I was told by my friend who is an alum that he will get one and to just hold tight. That being said, I’m putting very little importance on it. I really don’t believe alums have much influence. S19 will be prepared and he’s looking forward to it but won’t read much into how it goes. So far, all of his college interviews have been fantastic going way longer than anticipated. One alum even sent him a book they discussed. I think it’s great to meet alums and learn more about the schools but I know a lot of people who do alumni interviews and they are always complaining that they write rave reviews and the kids don’t get in!
@shekw19 My husband interviews for Dartmouth and got his list for 13 candidates in early January. He has all but two done, 8 were by Skype. I would call and ask for one. Good Luck!
