Dartmouth 2023 Applicants Discussion

Collegexpress just published an article on How To Ace Your Alumni Interviews. You can Google it; some helpful information.

My husband interviews and tells the kids 30 to 60 minutes.

Has anyone received emails reminding them to file CSS? We didn’t file because we aren’t looking for institutional aid, but portal is showing “awaiting” CSS. I called financial aid and told them we weren’t filing and I had to send them an email so they can update the portal. She said, “that way the emails will also stop coming asking you to send it in”. Hm. Never received any emails. Just wondering if anyone out there was late on sending their CSS and DID receive an email from Dartmouth.

Had my interview and the interviewer asked a good amount of the ?’s on the website. She also asked a bunch of personal questions about my life and things on my resume. Lasted about 45min but it could have gone longer (she was tired and arrived a bit late)

S19 finally got the email for an interview. He is interviewing on the very last day possible as the interviewer told him her report has to be in this Sunday!

Still no interview request here in NYC for my D19. (yep, we checked spam…nothing!) She actually enjoys the interviews, so pretty disappointing. :-<

@KCHWriter Well, an Interview is optional for Dartmouth especially, and not having one neither lowers admissions Chances, nor is it an indicator of the applicants strength. It only means that at that point of time and place, there was no one who was randomly assigned to the applicant. What I mean by that is, even though its NYC, there may be Alums who got assigned to other applicants by chance, and the applicant in question wasnt assigned one.

Nothing to worry about! If you want, it always helps to contact the interview committee to show interest for the Interview.

All the best in the admissions process!

Just had my interview…does it mean anything? A couple of other guys from my town had applied as well, but they didn’t get one and we are all international applicants.

@Avik my understanding is that it does not mean much. Alumni interviewers are not in touch with admissions and they don’t know where your app is in the process. S19 has his interview yesterday and I would say that the most important thing that came of it is that he really liked his young alum interviewer and he got a lot of his questions answered. He’s more sure than ever now that Dartmouth could be the place for him!!

Just contacted for an interview today! Your interviews could still be coming! I live in OK for context.

Interviews may last till early-mid march in the ‘latest’ scenarios. So hold on tight. A lack of one doesnt matter at all (chances wise), unless you decline the opportunity or badly trash the interview (swearing/rudeness…etc.)

@TheGuy1 really? I have a friend who is an interviewer and he was told that yesterday was the final day to send in his reports. S19’s interviewer told him the same thing…that she has to meet by yesterday because her reports were due by the end of the day.

@homerdog Its true. Late Interview reports work out fine. Sometimes an ‘emergency interview’ happens.

@homerdog A few days here/there for interview reports is fine. At least from what I know. Harvard especially says it goes till early/mid march due to alum reach factor(s).

@homerdog Also in context of Dartmouth, someone I know will be having his interview this saturday morning.

@TheGuy1 ok. I guess I just want people to know that Dartmouth interviews are different than Harvard ones. Harvard admissions really uses their interviews as part of the process. I know that Dartmouth interviews have very little effect on admissions and no one is ever cherry picked by admissions for an interview. So students should not think that, if they get an interview, that Dartmouth likes them. It doesn’t work like that. Admissions is not telling alumni to interview certain kids.

@homerdog Alright! Thanks for clarifying.

Hey guys. Does anyone have recommendations for interesting internships/programs from previous summers? Or even any company you know that is willing to take in a HS senior for the summer. I’m looking for something to do to gain some experience in any sort of business/law/political field before starting at Dartmouth next year. Let me know! (NYC/Philly area)

@whattheheck123 I would suggest making a separate forum for this (since this doesnt really relate to Dartmouth '23 apps).

I’d suggest looking up on google/linkedin. Linkedin is helpful in this case.

Congratulations on the ED acceptance though!

cool and thank you so much! I’ll start a separate forum and encourage others to come throw around ideas
