@my3gr8boyz, you know, I never really followed up on how many deferred applicants got in regular decision!

I love Dartmouth so far, and honestly, I think love is an understatement. I couldn’t have picked a school that fits my personality more–academics might be rigorous with the 10 week turnover rate, and boy did Chemistry whip me into shape, but all in all my first term was as magical as I wished it would have been. As for your son’s chances, I’ve come to realize that college “chancing” is all a crapshoot. I look around campus and see so many people who are talented in so many ways, and others who are not-so-talented. However, everyone who was admitted was admitted for a reason, and who’s to say that your son won’t be greeted with a pretty acceptance letter in the mail?!

As for the one person who asked about snowball fights–a quick anecdote for ya:

At the end of term, twas the day before my first (and last) final exam when I was all bundled up in Baker-Berry, vigorously taking notes. I look outside and see a ton of snow falling from the skies, covering everything in sight with a pristine white blanket. Theodore.Geisel.25@Dartmouth.edu Blitzes everyone on campus a wonderful poem and lets us know that that night, at midnight, would be the annual snowball fight. (For those of you who don’t know of our snowball tradition, every student gets a Blitz (email) on the first night of snowfall to gather on the green at midnight for a snowball fight).

Stuck in the library for 14 hours, I was seriously considering not joining the brawl on the Green. But as I put on my jacket and ventured outside with my friends who were commiserating with me in Baker-Berry, we see hundreds, if not thousands, of students on the Green–rolling around, throwing snowballs, and shivering their pants off. It was dead smack in the middle of finals week and never have I seen a crowd so lost in the moment, without a worry in the world.

Of course going back to the library to study for my final that started in 7 hours wasn’t fun, but it was the experience that mattered. And boy did it relieve stress!

But actually though, guys–I was in your shoes just a year ago and now I’m having the time of my life. Know that everything will work out for y’all in the end, whether that be HYPMSDLAKJFLDSF
or your state school. College is what you make of it!
