Dartmouth Class of 2018 Early Decision

Well dear mcskill, I really really have no hopes of qualifying. I have now prepared myself for a deferral. Your thoughts on the qualified pool at CC is bang on. Can not be truer.

You feel insecure but I feel indignant. For all I know, I dearly want an access to the 6.2million odd resources in the D library and the superb research environment with all the top class profs. For all I know, if i can really get an access to this, I will make it count. Thats why I am restless till that deferral comes out. Unfortunately i dont think research candidates are a top priority and all these hopes are quite unrealistic.

I submitted a research paper i did.at,the summer camp in US…i didnt know in the first place that Dartmouth would accept it though… Its just my high schoolbreally emphasizing it…(im from china)

two years ago they released on sunday the 9th so sunday the 8th doesnt seem that unreasonable.

rd, two years ago it fell on Friday the 9th if I recall correctly. And last year it was on Dec 7, also a Friday — which kind of makes me hope the decision this year will be released on a Friday as well (the 6th). Baseless deductions though :P

when you all guessing release date base on last year and previous year’s date…please be aware the the deadline is 8 days later this year due to CA technical issue

emanonR, the deadline was also extended last year and the year before

Ilsmtae, that is exactly what I was going to say. Snowstorm and power outages on 10/29/2011, Hurricane Sandy and massive east coast damage on 10/29/2012, and CA glitches in 2013. We are back to hoping it’s the 6th! It would be really nice to know either way before the weekend. Might be a weekend full of excitement, or may be a weekend full of essays… ;)

Oh did anyone read The Dartmouth’s blog post? I don’t have a link right here, but I remember it was a post about ED statistics for '18s. They said that there’s no plan to delay the results (which is great), but also that the date would most likely be on the second week of December (which is not really that great at all).

there was a 6.7% rise in number of applicants this year

Do they have a lot of snowball fights at Dartmouth?

Nothing’s more fun :)

@Eric
I was on campus when there was snow last year and there were guys running around in shorts and t-shirts throwing a Frisbee around, so I’d imagine there are tons of snowball fights

So does anyone know which day decisions will be released?

@hss2014
if anyone knows this forum will be exploded by now

I called the admissions office and they said an official date hasn’t been released but they are “aiming for the 15th give or take a few days.” The notification date hasn’t been after the 10th in at least the past 5 years though.

what
now I have to prepare myself for more agonizing waiting…

@my3gr8boyz, you know, I never really followed up on how many deferred applicants got in regular decision!

I love Dartmouth so far, and honestly, I think love is an understatement. I couldn’t have picked a school that fits my personality more–academics might be rigorous with the 10 week turnover rate, and boy did Chemistry whip me into shape, but all in all my first term was as magical as I wished it would have been. As for your son’s chances, I’ve come to realize that college “chancing” is all a crapshoot. I look around campus and see so many people who are talented in so many ways, and others who are not-so-talented. However, everyone who was admitted was admitted for a reason, and who’s to say that your son won’t be greeted with a pretty acceptance letter in the mail?!

As for the one person who asked about snowball fights–a quick anecdote for ya:

At the end of term, twas the day before my first (and last) final exam when I was all bundled up in Baker-Berry, vigorously taking notes. I look outside and see a ton of snow falling from the skies, covering everything in sight with a pristine white blanket. Theodore.Geisel.25@Dartmouth.edu Blitzes everyone on campus a wonderful poem and lets us know that that night, at midnight, would be the annual snowball fight. (For those of you who don’t know of our snowball tradition, every student gets a Blitz (email) on the first night of snowfall to gather on the green at midnight for a snowball fight).

Stuck in the library for 14 hours, I was seriously considering not joining the brawl on the Green. But as I put on my jacket and ventured outside with my friends who were commiserating with me in Baker-Berry, we see hundreds, if not thousands, of students on the Green–rolling around, throwing snowballs, and shivering their pants off. It was dead smack in the middle of finals week and never have I seen a crowd so lost in the moment, without a worry in the world.

Of course going back to the library to study for my final that started in 7 hours wasn’t fun, but it was the experience that mattered. And boy did it relieve stress!

But actually though, guys–I was in your shoes just a year ago and now I’m having the time of my life. Know that everything will work out for y’all in the end, whether that be HYPMSDLAKJFLDSF… or your state school. College is what you make of it!

Aspirare: You’ll remember that snowball fight when you’re 70.

Hi everyone! I’m new on here (found the site from last year’s applicants when applying ED, intelligently forgot to write the name down, just found it again) so if someone has asked this already I apologize- did anyone here create any arts supplements? I did Studio Art and Music, which I thought would be common, but I haven’t heard anything about them.

@Aspirare- “Chemistry whip me into shape”

OChem or GChem?

Hey everyone I am an early decision applicant to the Dartmouth class of 2018. I have not yet been contacted for an interview and I was just wondering whether or not everyone here has had an interview already? When I visited Dartmouth and spoke to an admissions officer about where I lived and went to school in Connecticut she said that I would “definitely have and interview” where I lived. But there has been no alumni contact or contact for an interview. Is it too late to be contacted for an interview at this point? Should I be worried I was never contacted? Does Dartmouth look at your app and then send out interviews or is it just randomized based on alumni in the area who volunteer?
Thanks
