Dartmouth College Bound Summer Program 2012

Alright, you guys! I have sadly noticed that no one has attempted to make a thread concerning this very important matter for us rising seniors. Therefore, I granted myself with full authorization to establish this thread. Do you know what today is? It is June 19, 2012, Dartmouth Bound Decisions Day for 2012. I haven't yet received my decision and I don't know when for sure the decisions will be sent worldwide today, but I wish all of you the best of luck and remember that if it is for you, then no one can stop you from claiming what's rightfully yours! Also, remember that just because you weren't accepted for Dartmouth Bound does not mean that you shouldn't apply for admission into the school because you are not looked upon as an unworthy applicant by the Admissions Office. Once again, Good Luck to you all!

*Post the final decision stats of your choice (including race, gender, GPA, etc) any any comments that you have to get off of your intelligent minds. Happy Posting!

So excited! No word from Dartmouth yet…

Has anyone heard anythin yet?

Nope. Nada. Very anxious.

It’s officially June 20th where I am. I still haven’t heard anything :(

Same problem here. Me and a bunch of my friends have been waiting on it.

Hey, you guys! If we get picked do we have the option of choosing first class flights? Wouldn’t that be so cool?

What is this program? No offense, but it just seems like a marketing ploy by Dartmouth admissions. I’m sure it has an impact on your application to Dartmouth, but unless you’re a hooked ED applicant to the school, probability of acceptance is low and you’ll need to find something else to do in the summer that will impress the other school’s you’re applying to. Since this program really only works as a boon to Dartmouth, I can’t imagine this is a worthy investment of time during the summer. Anyone’s chance of getting into Dartmouth is low, and this won’t suddenly count as some sort of hook, anyways.

If it was a substantive program, then more power to you. But looking at the itinerary, this seems to me like an extend campus info session and tour.

Actually, this program is official because I know people that have attended it last year. Also, just because this is Dartmouth’s summer program does not mean that it is only acceptable for use towards the Dartmouth admissions towards the because there are people that Have been accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and the other Ivy League Schools for having this program as their only summer program. Therefore, as you can see, Ivy League summer programs are valued more than other summer programs simply because of the fact that they are being used in the Ivy League Admissions Processes, whether RD, EA, SCEA, etc.

Aaaaand it’s free.
Has anyone heard anything? I have not.

^ I HIGHLY doubt that this program improves your chances at Dartmouth or other ivies Chris and if that’s your reasoning for why you want to be accepted and attend then you clearly need to reevaluate your thought process.

No, Hockeydude, you’re completely wrong! I think that what you are actually trying to say is that awards like the Harvard, Yale, Princeton Book Award does not help your chances AT ALL. However, like I previously mentioned before, the Dartmouth Program DOES increase chances of being accepted, of course with the proper requirements. This program only accepts 50 freaking students to attend. Therefore, like the admissions process, the program is very competitive and selective. Did you apply to any schools yet or summer programs?

In my personal research of the program many reliable sources said that the original intention of the program was to accept students of the college’s standards. Back then, it was almost a guarantee that those students accepted into Dartmouth Bound were of caliber to be admitted for undergraduate studies. Now, that is certainly not the case with the exploding amount of applications to the school. However, the program seems intresting enough and although there is no guarantee or anything close to it,for the matter, Dartmouth Bound will be a positive addition to your application and can very well make you a hot commodity if you are URM status.

Then again what do I know? ( ;

Great Job, sweetiegirl! State those facts!

Also, FREE programs like Dartmouth Bound and and Princeton Journalism
summer program make you look very good on your application, as long as you are have a hook like URM because these are basically the only free Ivy League Programs and if you apply with a budget less than $65,000 then it will be understandable. however, if you have an income of let’s say about $200,000 to 250,000, then the admissions officers would Like to see you pay for your programs because you wouldnt be getting that much financiAl aid
From them if you get accepted to their school because of how much money you make.

Lol! Anyone hear from Dartmouth yet? The suspense just might kill me! There is a concert that I want to go to on the last day of the program but if I’m accepted that is sure out the window and if I’m not… well I better purchase tickets pronto!

Nothing! I’ll have to miss part of my last week of intern for this. I have to let them know if I get in. I wonder why they aren’t out yet.

It’s Okay, everyone! We can just call the number they provided onthe application to figure out why the decisions haven’t been sent yet. I think it’s because our applications were the bomb. I hope to see you all at Dartmouth, even though I dont have my decision yet.

Does anyone know if we can get first class seats on our flights?

I didn’t do an internship this summer so I’m in the clear. I did one last year at a major research hospital so that being said…Dartmouth Bound would be one of my most prominent summer extracurriculars this year and I’m banking on it. Decisions were to be out no later then June 19. The wait! I hope everyone on this thread gets in! ( :
