****Dartmouth College Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

does dartmouth send out likely letters?

Decision: Accepted by likely letter received in the mail a few days ago! Happiest day of my entire life.

SAT I (breakdown): 2390/800 math/800 reading/790 writing (Sick during test-- almost vomited during my last writing section, which is probably why I didn’t get 2400)
SAT II: 800 on Math II, Chem, Japanese ( I watch alot of anime in original Japanese and self-taught)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.99
Weighted GPA: 4.96 (one of the best in the state-- my counselor told me it was because of the college classes I took)
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/701
AP (place score in parentheses): 5s in Physics, Japanese, Chinese, US History, World History, Chem, Lang, Psych
Senior Year Course Load: Post-AP work at local college in a few subjects, APs in others
Number of other applicants in your school: 5, but they’re all most likely going to be rejected. You heard it here first.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): ISEF category winner, awarded a research grant from HHMI for my project, Academic Excellence award from my county only given to one student a year, won an award amateur journalism for my work in the local city newspaper
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): President of and founder of debate team at my school and regional debate champion, founder of Stop Homelessness Now at my school (we advocate for local homeless populations in my city, design and create cheap and durable clothing for impoverished families-- won honors for this), varsity football (first girl on my school’s team in its history), MUN, French Club, President and founder of Anime Club at my school
Job/Work Experience: Internship at Google (basically guaranteed a job after graduation), local newspaper work as mentioned above
Volunteer/Community service: Worked at a refugee camp in Mannheim, Germany and taught English to refugees newly arrived in Germany. Am fluent in Arabic as a result. Worked at Kumon. Tutored some. Traveled to Greenland with a team for research on the migrations of whales. Studied gender and sexuality in whale pods.
Essays (Include Subjects):
Common App Main: Wrote about the special connection I formed with a whale while in Greenland and elaborated on the declining conservation status of whales and the responsibility of humanity as steward of the planet. Very strong 10/10
Essay #1: Wrote about how I wanted to go back to Greenland and conduct more research on whales and reform my connections. Very strong 10/10 according to my counselor it was very moving.
Essay #2: Discussed how Kermit’s green color and the colors of all animals are related to evolution and behavior. Very strong 10/10 showcased science knowledge
Other:
Teacher Recommendation #1: One of my professors from a college class. Very strong, she said I was one of the best students she could remember in a 40 year career of academia
Teacher Recommendation #2: From the Japanese teacher at my school who I speak fluent Japanese with and says I am the most motivated student
Counselor Rec: IDK, don’t know my counselor
Peer Rec: From a refugee and friend at camp in Germany. Very heartfelt. Had to borrow a computer to write in broken English. Talked about how my teaching and friendship changed her life.
Interview: Amazing, we are going to dinner tomorrow to celebrate my letter.
State (if domestic applicant): Vermont
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: around 100,000
Strengths: Think my research and essays were the best aspects of my app!
Weaknesses: I think I might have been too passionate about science
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: IDK, I didn’t even think I was going to get in!

lol clearly the last post is not real.

@DoctorMD she really lost me at the part when she became fluent in Arabic after volunteer work in Germany

not going to lie, it was entertaining to read. @nervous17yearold

How is that confusing? The refugees (from Syria) settled in Germany speak Arabic. They’re probably lying but how do you not see that…

@gumdymom I’m sorry but that’s nothing to insult people’s intelligence about… I just simply thought that the first language you’d learn in Germany, or at least a major language you’d learn in Germany, was German.

I wonder how people have enough time and resources to be doing all that

@nervous17yearold I didn’t insult your intelligence, lol. I am from Germany…

i loved how the peer rec was from a refugee too
@nervous17yearold nice touch :slight_smile:

i was so intimidated by that post for a hot minute @nervous17yearold

A peer rec from the whale would have been an epic touch

Dartmouth does send likely letters. My daughter got one last year. But they are not super common, and certainly you should not worry if you didn’t receive one.

my favorite was the weakness LOLOLOLOL!

Weakness: I am so perfect, it sometimes makes others depressed.

How do you guys know that’s fake though?

If it’s not fake, it’s just hurtful boasting. So I am going with fake.

So what are you guys doing to pass time during these last 2 weeks before Ivy day? It’s quite nerve-wracking to wait. Which is hilarious because I’m fairly confident my chance of acceptance is microscopic, but waiting still sucks nonetheless.

OMG, I’m so gullible. I read it and thought, “My kid will never get in, but if she does, I hope she never has to see this girl.”

So is nobody getting likely letters anymore?

nice to see parents so confident in their children. makes me understand about what mine must think
